Testing a new build PC's performance
Hi
I have built my own pc and used the fantastic overclocking guide found on these forums.
What I would like to do is test the performance of my new machine now. Is there a simple way to do this and also some benchmarks that standard cpu's should achieve? I'm only interested in the cpu and graphics performance really, and only to see if all my work has been worth it, there are no particular issues I am experiencing.
Thanks

prime95 benchmark can be useful
for graphics and cpu, try futuremark

that list (which we made into a sticky so it's at the TOP of the Operating Systems and Applications forum, has lots of stuff you might like to try :)
Re: Testing a new build PC's performance
Don't forget that every single component will affect your benchmarking results - so there aren't really any "standard" results you should get for a particular CPU. A lot depends on memory, motherboard, hard drive etc. so there's no *absolute* standards. A lot of standard benchmarking apps should give pretty similar results independant of the platform, though.
If you want to see how good your overclock is you can always benchmark at stock speeds then at overclocked speeds to see what kind of gain you get.
Also, if you're looking for CPU *comparisons*, http://www.anandtech.com/bench is a favourite of mine to look at *relative* processor performance. If you're trying to get into overclocking and extreme performance, there's a few sites where people can upload their results and get ranked in league tables. Just don't get disheartened if your system seems slow in comparison to some of theirs!
Re: Testing a new build PC's performance
I'm not really into extreme OC etc. I just want to make sure everything is running well and see what sort of performance, relative to other processors and OC, I am getting.
Re: Testing a new build PC's performance
For testing stability intel burn test is generally the one to go for, watch your temps though as it makes Prime 95 look like childs play, 8 mins in intel test is equal to about 40hours under prime 95.

Graphically, 3D mark 06, Futuremark Vantage, Crysis, etc.
