If it's for storage, I would just pick the one that offers the value for the money (most GB/£). Okay, I am not keen on Seagate at this moment, though the latest may be fine.

I have a Hitachi in my NAS you can get them now for £50, however I would be tempted to spend a few more quid and get a Samsung F2, it'll be quieter and cooler most likely.

Re: Which 1tb for storage ?

I have four Samsung F2 drives - three 1TB and one 500GB. All are awesome. Perfectly fast enough - I keep and use lots of VMWare images on them - and they run very cool indeed.

Don't get a WD Green. I used to use the EACS version which was crap - it has a big problem with excessive load-unload cycles, and the PCB on the drive doesn't have solder on the exposed traces like every other board, so it looks very bad and would be prone to corrosion, especially in places near saltwater.

Saw the Samsung F2 1.5tb version for £80 on Ebuyer yesterday, that is tempting!

Re: Which 1tb for storage ?

my WHS box contains

a seagate 7200.11 320gb drive as boot
then for storage...
four seagate 7200.12 1tb drives, with another "spare" for when required
one seagate xtreme 1tb eSATA connected via eSATA
one WD 500gb eSATA connected via USB

my main comp contains

two seagate 7200.11 320gb
two seagate 7200.11 1tb

so, all in all, i have no issues with seagate, though i have to admit seagate didn't do themselves any favours by not fully testing the firmware prior to release. not too dis-similar to canon and the 1D mark 3, but that's another story for another forum.
