Re: New build not posting!
Your motherboard manual should describe what the beep pattern is, but genericly speaking, -.. should mean that there's a problem with initialising the graphics card.
Re: New build not posting!
It means video card error. It might not be an actual error with the component as it could be either the wrong setting in BIOS or a PSU problem to the component.
Reset CMOS as the first thing.
What PSU and graphics card are you using?
Re: New build not posting!
Also make sure the GPU card is properly seated in the appropriate bus slot. It may take a bit of a wiggle to get it seated right, sometimes.
Re: New build not posting!
Reseated the gfx card and reset the CMOS via the shorting method stated in the manual.
In fairness my manual doesn't tell me anything about the beeps.
And still no joy =[
Re: New build not posting!
What PSUs and graphics card have you tried?
Re: New build not posting!
The psu is a Corsair HX450w
The gfx cards i have tried are; An 8800GTS 640mb and a 9800GT 512mb
Re: New build not posting!
Might try another mobo, but then thats more cash :(
Re: New build not posting!
Weird, it has started posting, but only like 10% of the time.
And it says that i don\'t have a valid windows CD when i insert the XP home edition retail CD =/
Re: New build not posting!
Push down on, and *slightly* rock the memory modules. They\'re another common problem area with bad seating.
Re: New build not posting!
Hmm, it doesn\'t seem to post at all now, but did rarely did when i pushed down the graphics card and the heatsink...
Re: New build not posting!
Try running with one stick of ram, preferably a known working one perhaps nicked from another machine. Have nothing plugged into the board except power and video and the power button. Also do a cmos reset. If it boots like that you can work up from there adding components. Some motherboard manufacturers have options to \'restore\' the cmos from a cd etc bundled with the board. Might be worth having a look at as if you have known working components and a barebones setup not posting it points to the motherboard/bios being the culprit.
Re: New build not posting!
Yeah, thanks.
I have pretty much come to the conclusion it is a dodgy mobo. I got it from the bay, but he was selling his processor too so i thought it was a legit upgrade for him.
I have tried the graphics card in my pc so i know it isn\'t that.
The Ram is brand new from scan so i am almost certain it isn\'t that.
It powers up so it isn\'t the psu.
I\'ve had it running, even if only a couple of times, so i know it isn\'t the cpu.
Hmmm. I\'ve tried resetting the CMOS with no joy too =/
Re: New build not posting!
Have come to the conclusion i managed to short the mobo by using the \'wrong\' screws...
Even though the beeps indicate i have a video error.
=[
Re: New build not posting!
lol wut? didnt know there were such things as wrong screws....
Re: New build not posting!
Well basically, i used other screws that were mixed in with general case screws.
And apparently there is a way of shorting out your motherboard by not putting the correct ones in the correct way?
Thats what i got told.
