The motherboard comes with a built in network port to connect your internet cable to. Also it should hav 4+ USB ports for you to use and as Saracen has said extra cables can be had for little.

I just want a load of USBs and 2, maybe at a big stretch three sata drives - will I be covered with what they provide then do you think?

Can anyone recommend a gaming mouse - i have one of the really old dell wired ones and i think its time to upgrade!

    Cheers,

I don't know what comes with that motherboard, but I'd expect you to be okay. To be sure, you could browse the manufacturer website and download the manual. That should give you the full contents of the box.

What do you think of AMD? I was just reading that AMD wasn't good for some reason but no explanation! Please say why - I don't want to buy a bad product!!!

Well you get 8 USB 2 slots on the back board

    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...oductImageBack

It also has 6 internal sata ports and e-sata as well (external sata)

    Actual product page
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...A-MA790XT-UD4P

    I have one of these
    http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...r_gaming_mouse

mainly because I like a bigger heavy mouse. Logitech make some excellent mice but you need a budget as mice get really expensive. You really need to find them and see if they suit your hand. Places like pc world (but dont buy from them).

AMD make good chips. They are not quite as powerful as the intel equivalent except gaming.

    Thanks - much appreciated.

Scan sell the ATI HD 4890 as a normal edition and a black edition - is there any point in getting the black edition - is it better (comes with a game as well)?

Also, with the picture of the motherboard you gave a link to, will that fit into a slot on the Antec 300? Are they all designed to just slot into any case?

Yes. That graphics card will take up 2 standard slots, full ATX cases (like the Antec 300) will usually have 7 slots.

So what's all this about Windows 7? Does that mean I don't buy Vista Home Premium?

Also, with the AMD Tri Core Processor I've chosen, do I get the 32 or 64 bit version?

    Cheers,

Re: Some help buying a gaming desktop online please!

Windows 7 is Microsoft's next version of Windows due out before the end of the year. You can download the Release Canditate from Microsoft's website, and use that for the next 8 months or whatever it is. Then buy the full release later. It's actually pretty stable, so you don't need to worry about that.

Get the 64bit version, the 32bit Windows can't address more than 4GB of RAM, and only about 3-3.5GB of that will actually be usable.

    Thanks.

Can you explain response time with monitors? Is 5ms good? Or I have found another on Scan which is 3ms response time. I wish there were some customer reviews on it...

Re: Some help buying a gaming desktop online please!

Flat panel response time is the time it takes for a pixel on the monitor to respond to changes in colour, black to white in this case. Anything below 12ms is good. 5ms is generally fast enough for nearly any use.

You can read more about it here: http://www.d-silence.com/feature.php?id=249

Re: Some help buying a gaming desktop online please!

    I've found three possible monitors:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...#37;3DWatching
    http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=29102
    http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=21398

Could you have a look and recommend which would be best for gaming. If you could hunt around for any customer reviews that comment on gaming, that would be great - I've tried and come up with nothing...

    Cheers,

Theirs quite a good deal over at pixmania at the moment on a Acer 24" full HD 2ms monitor.

    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/2273...html?srcid=369

Being pixmania though it may have a non english plug, plus specs state its VGA.

Re: Some help buying a gaming desktop online please!

I'd be more inclined to go with the Dell due to the 1920x1080.

I actually have the same Neovo and the 23" version of the Dell and I recommend the Dell over the Neovo.

If you can push you budget however, i go with this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-De...680x1050-10001

Re: Some help buying a gaming desktop online please!

I'm afraid I refuse to go anywhere near Acer - very bad experiences!

I'm not quite sure what all the specs mean - for example, is 1680x1050 better than 1920x1050?

I think I'll go with the Dell on eBay because that does HD, looks nice and sleek and seems to be really nice.

    Cheers,
