Hope this is not a repost, but...
Found this while ploughing through digg <Linkage> it appears that this blokes managed to get his 8800gtx working again by baking it in the oven for a while. The thread goes on for ages with other stories of success with other knackared hardware too.

*mutters* I've chucked away a couple of broken GPU's which could've been baked for a couple of minutes
I did the same thing with my old (and now very broken) 360 when it failed - I'd modded the case etc so it was not warranty safe. Baked it 3 times over the course of 8 months and gained a little more life from it, plus a nasty smell in my kitchen.

I have got an old Fx5700 ultra that I might give this a go on this weekend
Guess it just reflows any broken/dodgy solder joints.
