Are you running in power saving mode? If so, goto control panel and change the plan settings. Choose advanced and disable USB selective suspend. Either that or choose balanced.

Check for latest chipset drivers. Does the light going off & on correspond with wiggling the cable and connectors? Sometimes the cable on mice is loose or frayed, causing connection problems.

Do other USB devices do the same thing? What does the PC's event log say? Does the mouse do this in other ports, either on the back plate or on the motherboard USB headers?

    most likely cause:
    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...-problems.html

    another option:
Is it connected to your monitors hub? I've had issues in Vista whereby the monitor hubs would switch on/off for no reason, while using the PC.

wow it was a cable problem after all! i took the wires out from behind the desk and plugged it in straight to the front of the case and its been working fine!
