    Hardware Specification Information

    Why is it some information supplied by manufacturers doesn't make any bit of sense whatsoever, and just causes more confusion for the end user?

    I'll give you a prime example - a nice PSU from xigmatek linked below

    http://www.xigmatek.com/product/power-nrpmc851.php#3

    Now, note the following stated on the specifications on that page ;

    Cooling System :: 140mm Fan, 2300RPM ± 10%
    Noise :: 16 dBA at 1300RPM

    Now I know that 2300 rpm - 10% is never ever going to be near 1300 rpm.

    So what is the actual noise levels of this product when it is in use with the fan running within the 10% margin of the 2300 rpm speed ?

    It's like saying that the PSU operates at 0 db ... when it's switched off that is.

    Re: Hardware Specification Information

    Maybe its suggesting that 2300 is the max RPM for the fan, give or take. Where as the 1300 RPM stat is showing what it actually runs like ? 1300 RPM seems a reasonable fan rate for a 140mm fan.

    On hardware specification maybe you could pass on the message to include what PCI-E power requirments certain graphics cards have, i.e. 6-pin, 8-pin, 6/8-pin x2.

    I would read it as saying that 1,300 and 1,400 rpm are the min and max speeds, and have given the stats best reflecting each value - i.e. airflow at max speed, noise at min speed.

    It's equivalent to a car manufacturer telling you the 0-60 time and Extra-Urban mpg figures - both are (in theory) true of the car, just not at the same time.

    Re: Hardware Specification Information

    Judging by the other PSU specs on the site I'd say that that's not a typo. Possibly it's a way of comparing noise across a range with varying speeds, pick a reference speed and measure the noise level at that speed.
