Need an upgrade
Hi guys,
this is my system at the moment:
SB51g
P4 2.4GHz
2x512Mb TwinMos Dual Channel
WD 80gig 8Mb Cache
Geforce4 Ti4200
Sony DRU-14a 4x DVD+/-R/RW
NEC 1760NX LCD
Im looking to get a new graphics card in a few weeks, probably the Sapphire 9600XT Ultimate, but I also want to upgrade my processor. I want to get one of the P4's with the 800MHz FSB but I dont want to buy a whle new Shuttle.
Is it possible to buy a new motherboard, maybe the FB61 or FB62, and stick it in my exisiting case.
Thanks in advance,
vaughty

Sure you can buy a new motherboard, I have seen them on the us.shuttle.com website. BVut you will need to consider the back panel connectors. Also, I think that the features that come with new shuttles, like Silent X PSU, would be reason enough to get a whole new one.
Sell your old one as a full system, it is fairly respectable for the average user and use teh money to get the SB75G2.

If your purpose is planning and implementing your "new" system, the bit-by-bit approach has merit. However, you'll probably spend more time and, thereby, money as you would if just invested in a new SB75G2.
Certainly somebody in your family or among your friends need/want your current Shuttle, right? Spread the joy, dude...

Having thought about it, it probably is the best option to go with the SB72G2.
As for someone to sell my current Shuttle to, my Dad said only today that he wouldn't mind having it in his office although he didn't offer any money just a trade for his Celeron 400MHz(?) 64Mb Ram....... Funnily enough I declined :D
Looks like I'll have to start saving, wish I was still a proper student (doing an MSc now) cause the loan comes through soon ;)
Thanks for your comments,
