    Cheap AM2 Motherboard

    I need a cheap replacement motherboard for a 5200+.

    Will this one be ok?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=28688

Requirements: on board graphics, micro ATX

Usage: web browsing/office. Also maybe used for some sound editing/converting in the future.

    Re: Cheap AM2 Motherboard

It should be fine although I would get the following MSI motherboard instead:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=575249

Unlike the Sapphire one it also only requires a 4 pin motherboard secondary power connector and not the newer 4 pin standard. Hence you will be able to re-use an older PSU (providing it is decent enough).

    Re: Cheap AM2 Motherboard

The PSU has the 4 pin power. But I guess that MSI are a better brand than Sapphire...

Which board would you recommend at £40 and £50. If I can get gigabit, couple more SATAs, more reliable chipset I don't mind spending a little extra.

    Re: Cheap AM2 Motherboard

If you want to spend a bit more then the following motherboard will do the job nicely:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...-RAID-uATX-VGA

It has a good array of back panel connectors.

Thanks for the suggestion. What do ya think of this one:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigab...-SATA-RAID-ATX

There are so many different Asus motherboards. It is crazy. It is putting me off them tbh. I don't like having to look at 20 different Asus mother boards that all cost within £10 of each other.
ASUS if you read this -> Sort your life out!

    EDIT: Or this Asus: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...oard-VGA-HDCP?
or this one, on today only for £55

TBH,the Asus 8200 motherboard I suggested is good enough. The following motherboard has a faster IGP and all solid capacitors:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...-uATX-VGA-HDMI

Either go for this motherboard or the cheaper 8200 one I suggested.

On the contrary, even in high-end cases I find it helpful, I wish more board manufacturers would use it.

I was talking about the older 4 pin ATX connector as newer motherboards have the newer 8 pin EPS one which older PSUs do not have. The MSI motherboard does not have the need for an 8 pin EPS connector.

Yep, I agree with you as it makes the assembly process less fiddly especially when you are building an SFF PC.

    Re: Cheap AM2 Motherboard

Agreed, but I like seeing the 8-pin EPS. Usually you can use a 4-pin connector in an 8-pin EPS socket, and the 8-pin connector is IMO a must to run anything beyond a 95W chip safely (because I saw what happened to a 4-pin connector with a 150W overclocked core 2 quad, it wasn't pretty)
