Powersaving cpu options...
Well i was wondering if they actually make a difference? For example intel speedstep, now how can changing the processor speed affect power usage when ive set the voltage to the cpu to only 1.08v. Does it actually work? Or should i disable all these cpu options, because i believe my pc would perform better and shouldnt use any more power with them off, am i right?.
Also, can you change the values for gpu's for idle? Mine idles at 160 core and 250memory but i bet i could bring it down :P

The power usage of a CPU scales linearly with frequency, and quadratically with the voltage.
I.e: double the frequency, you double the power usage
double the voltage, the power usage goes up by 4 times.
Simple as that really. So yes, it does actually work.
Re: Powersaving cpu options...
But surely if your giving it a fixed amount of power then it cant go over that?/

Why do you think you're giving it a fixed amount of power?
Re: Powersaving cpu options...
By setting a fixed voltage? I thought that was the power, where else can it get it from?:P

Power = Volts * Amps.
You have fixed the voltage at 1.08, but it can draw as much current as it needs.
:p

And to think i did an alevel in electronics :P. Totally forgot about that.
