I need a tiny bit of help: I'm looking for a motherboard with an Intel ICH*R controller - I'm only going to use it to recover hdd's from another system with a dead motherboard so not looking to spend a lot on this board as it will be setup, used to recover the hdd's to alternate media and then shutdown...
(The hdd's are a RAID 0 set so need a compatible controller to recover the raid set as raid 0 has no fault tolerance...)
Recovering a RAID is almost impossible without the orignal chip at hand. (Almost) May I enquire as to what happened to the orignal board with the RAID controller? If you can recover this board your job will be much easier.Quote:

The other board is in a eurocomm d90x which has died; won't power up; won't do anything. Its either the m/board or CPU but leaning towards the motherboard as occasionally she'll just about pass bios then shutdown.
No its not if the RAID was made on ICH6R it can be seen on ICH10R its Backward compatible.Quote:

Yup; I've got a 4870 Gfx card so it will need to support PCI-E slots, my existing memory is OCZ GOLD DDR2 PC2-8500C5 (1066MHz) so might need to pick up some cheep 1GB memory... will need minimum of 3 SATA ports as its two HDD's to recover and a new hdd to boot/recover to.
Your existing RAM is fine unless you want to add more.
You can go as low as Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3LR maybe lower....

Thanks for that; it will do the job nicely and let me test the cpu in my laptop proving once and for all which bit is fried...
