    Unhappy Vista x64 losing cores

    System as in sig.

Machine is randomly dropping to a single core (shown in Vista performance monitor) regardless of system load - literally four cores one minute and one the next. Only a reboot cures.

The fact that the system doesn't crash suggests power management is powering down the other cores gracefully, but power management is disabled in both the BIOS and in Vista.

Chief suspect is was the Asus ACPI manager, but disabling that didn't make any difference.

I'm stumped, so wondered whether you good folks could help out.

    Cheers

    Re: Vista x64 losing cores

How can you be sure the monitor is correct. Why not try running prime/orthos etc and also run coretemp. Keep the monitor open and when it drops to a single core, confirm that the processes slow/fail or the temps on the other 3 cores drop.

I would be surprised if this is actually happening as opposed to being misreported.
