Smile Could you answer two basic ?`s about my new motherboard ?

Even if you can just answer one of them

    1. Doesn't explain to well in the manual, but I notice with my motherboard it came with 2 sticks of "turbo memory". I personally have 2 sticks of 1GB DDR2 Ram. Can you advise from looking at this pic were I should install the turbo memory + were to put my ram ?, just a little confused and want to get it all right.

    2. I understand that there are 2 main power ports on the motherboard, 1 is the 20 pin + the CPU power.... The other power port by the actual CPU do I connect 2 x 4 pin cables to it or just one ?... You can see from the picture top left there is a peice of white plastic covering half the port, is that to stop me using it or something ?

    Thanks so much !

any more detail available on the 'turbo memory'? what does it say about it?

generally on motherboards, same coloured slots are where matched pairs of memory go to make most of dual channel, so maybe turbo mem goes in single coloured slots and your memory can go in either pairs of coloured slots

looks like it takes DDr2 and DDr3, you wont be able to mix the 2 memory types on that board and your memory will only fit into the slots its keyed for.

    1) Looks like there are 2 slots for DDR2 and 4 slots for DDR3 to me.

    2) Just plug stuff in wherever it'll go and see if it works More seriously, if you have an up-to-date PSU, it should come with a big 24pin plug, and an 8 pin plug.

I no I cant mix the memory but I am sure for me to use DDR2 I have to put the Turbo memory in certain slots, and the same if I was using DDR3

The turbo memory is double sided. top side is DDR2 and the other side is DDR3. Just a little unsure how to install etc.

I thought turbo memory was PCI-e x1 based?

Re: Could you answer to basic ?`s about my new motherboard ?

Looking at the manual, the Turbo Memory appears to be RAM slot terminators.

My guess would be that they are there to decrease signal noise and make the BIOS talk to the correct RAM slots.

Pages 2-7 to 2-9 of the manual explain what to install where.

If you are using DDR2, install the "Turbo Memory" in slots 2 and 5.

If you are using DDR3, install them in slots 1 and 4.

One issue with some mobo manufacturers is that they only provide a printed quickstart guide with the full manual on a CD - that means you need another computer to read the manual beforwe you can build your new computer! I would've thought something that complicated would've been in the quickstart guide though...

No problem, your post got me curious as to what it was, figured the easiest way was to look at the manual.
