A relative requires a laptop, mainly for word processing/internet browsing. Doesn`t need to be very portable - so I thought a 17" screen might be best due to the typing requirements - anyone know of any good deals at the moment?

take a look at Dell's site, they always have pretty good offers on laptops, and if you buy now, make sure that it qualifys for the free (ecluding p&p) windows 7 disk when it comes out.
Do you have any kind of ideal budget in mind?
Hi, yes sorry, budget upto £600ish, but the cheaper the better. Would have suggested the Samsung on Ebuyer's site (R710? around £570), but now no more - I think they're bringing out a new model. This was 16", but was WUXGA - probably overkill, but I'd rather they bought something that was better than they needed, rather than not good enough....
Dell is a possibility, but friends have been waiting a month for a laptop to be "built". This one needs to be bought this week, because they live in Spain and are only over until the weekend. Although they speak Spanish, they want an English laptop because of the keyboard layout etc.
I got my dell Studio 17 from here & I couldn't be happier with it. Came with a 3 year dell warranty, it looks brand new (despite being a 'refurb') and its a damn site cheaper then on dell's website. Also 1 week delivery! :)

edit; looking through the list of Studio 1737s I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! There are several on there which would be ideal for your friend! :)
