Pc doing strange things posibly mobo
Recently i have noticed my computer starts to play up a bit. Check my specs left, only right now when it all started to happen i removed all overclocks so its all stock now
Firstly, Cool'n'quiet doesnt work when its in overclock - i supose thats understandable
Im using the on board sound card atm, and i always get some distorted sound, The sounds is fine for few sec, then its distorted (crackling) for a sec then its fine again...and goes on. At the same time everything freezes when the sound is distorted. Say playing a game, The game normaly runs fine acording to fraps at like 30FPS, but it still kinda keeps pausing and going with sound turning distorted for about half a sec every few seconds.
also when i removed the overclock and started to use the cool'n'quiet feature, for some reason theres a big delay when the CPU speeds up again, so for instance when watching something in media center it just doesnt work, video is all pixelated and sound is distorted etc
also few old games keep locking up windows, mainly Alien shooter and Audio surf but few other old ones from steam do that.
I pretty much tried playing with clocks and resetting bios and its the latest version etc. What ever i set the problem doesnt seem to go away.
Any ideas?
Re: Pc doing strange things posibly mobo
Try turning off any power saving featuers, and/or underclocking the different bits of it to see which are the culprit.
Run memtest.
Remove one stick of memory at a time to check if either or them is dogy
Re: Pc doing strange things posibly mobo
i did under clock it to see if it was the issue... doesnt help
and i also removed the ram sticks lready doesnt help either :(
anyone else think its also the mobo?
and all my powersaving features are already off, as its taking ages to recover to max performace
Re: Pc doing strange things posibly mobo
I'd suspect software first rather than hardware. Was it you (Georgy) on the other thread who said they used to get a couple of viruses a year?
Backup anything important and format your hard drive. Do a CMOS reset while you're at it. Then reinstall windows XP from your original disc, install the AMD CPU drivers, install any required motherboard drivers, reboot and let us know what the situation is then.
Re: Pc doing strange things posibly mobo
you could try a linux live cd ( ubuntu is what i use ) if that works its your software.
I know you cant test games but it should test the sound card
Re: Pc doing strange things posibly mobo
The sound problem is reminiscent of a couple of driver issues I've encountered in the past - you could try rolling back your sound card drivers to see if that cures it (I once had to travel 155 miles to do that for a client...)
Re: Pc doing strange things posibly mobo
hmm i have now got win 7 RC
i used to have win 7 Beta and it did the same..
i think best way forward is in september i will be buying a phenom to replace this 5 year old junk. think it might be a good idea to chuck in a mobo while im at it
