    AMD Athlon II X2 245

Looks like it is the successor to the X2 7750+ and X2 7850+ and is priced around the £50 mark:

    http://techreport.com/discussions.x/17165

First review together with the X2 240:

    http://en.hardspell.com/doc/enshowcont.asp?id=6438

The power consumption figures look also very good indeed.

With regards to price,no! The X2 250 competes with the E6300 whereas the X2 245 competes with the E5200 and E5300 and is priced similarly to the X2 7850+ and E5200.

The X2 245 is already priced at this level whereas the X2 250 is priced at the level of the E6300.

Scan have it for £48 on Today Only:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

Looks like the X2 7750+ and 7850+ are now bettered at a similar price in the AMD lineup.

Of course it is, I bought one for someone last week

It is replacing their P4 3GHz HT though, so I'm sure they will still be stunned by the performance increase.

I'm falling behind on all these processors!

    Which belongs to which family?

Finally, which is faster than another for comparisons sake?

The Athlon X2 7750+ and 7850+ are based on the original 65nm Phenom architecture whereas the X2 245 and 250 are called the Athlon II and are based on the newer 45nm Phenom II architecture. The take home message is that the X2 245 will probably be faster than the X2 7750+ and 7850+ and consume less power at a similar price-point.

How do they compare to the Intel CPU range?

    BTW, thanks!

They have a thing called bench. It allows you to compare 2 cpus on performance in certain tests.

It seems that the Phenom II X2 545 has been released for under £70:

Why would anyone ever buy a Phenom 65nm CPU now?

AMD have shot themselves in the foot.

3 cores for ~ £50! And indeed, 4 for < £100. If you have heavily multithreaded software, a 3 core 65nm Phenom may well serve you better then a 2 core 45nm Athlon II...

That's like saying Microsoft have shot themselves in the foot by releasing Windows 7, because now no-one will buy Vista!

Re: AMD Athlon II X2 245

So AMD have finally fixed the main reason I don't tell people to buy X2s. All we need to see now is if they can be overclocked - the 7750/7850 were the worst overclocking CPUs I've seen since the Athlon XP desktop days.
