    via sata raid

bit confused now, i have 2 seagate 80gig sata drives and only master is recognized by win xp, which has the os. but via raid tool shows 2 drives and 2nd is the mirror drive, making sense? is there a fdisk floppy i can make and see that 2nd drive and reformat it in some way without reloading everything.
mobo is a epox8kra2, with high point and vt6420 host controller on it. any help please
    thanks.

You have it running in RAID-1 mode. That means the second drive is hidden from the OS at controller level as the second disk is simply "mirroring" the contents of drive one.

If you were after a performance array, you would have set it up in RAID-0 mode.

Theoretically, you shouldn't have a problem removing one of the drives from the array.. using the controller BIOS (when it's detecting the drives.. there will be an option to hit a key sequence to get you into the array)... but I place no guarantee on that working at all.

Your drives are now setup as RAID and in the motherboard BIOS will be an option to make the controller act as a SATA rather than SATA RAID controller. I think your best plan is to backup everything and break up the array, set the mobo BIOS to have the controller act as simply a SATA (non RAID) controller.. and reinstall

thanks for the help, thought xp may not wish to show the 2nd drive. dont really wish to reload but may just do that after making backups.

Never trust futzing around RAID unless you are 110% sure you know what you are doing and everything you might fear to lose.. is backed up elsewhere.

I speak from experience, trust me
