The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
I am not sure why, but I STILL want an Antec Skeleton chassis. I first saw one at HEXUS labs a while back, and it just cries out to me to buy one
Why?

I think it's basically perfection. No more case removal when I wanna fiddle, and yet somehow,, it looks no less portable than any other case.
So...what do you want that's just illogical in your head, but your heart is crying out for it?
Re: The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
i think if you want something that bad you should just get it :)
it's not that much to pay for happiness :D

A vapor-phase cooler unit. Absolutely pointless these days, but still awesomely cool :)

Sub-zero cool, to be precise. :D
Re: The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
You don't want one, you want two mounted back to back, with a sheet of glass on the top making a very awesome coffee table :)
Re: The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
I fricken hate stupid tables like that.
A friend of mine lived in this flat where the gay couple who owned it seamed to think furnature was all about form, not function.
Oh a table made out of an old sewing stand, thats good, is the glass fixed to it in any way, no. so if you put down a hot fondue pan anywhere but dead center, you have to have either very quick reactions (thankfully) or you start a fire............. </rant about stupid tables>

My work here is done...

Who would have thought a thread about an Al fresco case could turn into a rant about rubbish tables? ;)
Anyway, I think this is the fossilised Nvidia chip all over again...
Re: The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
I want a 30" monitor...I dont need it, my 24" is more than fine but I think we can all understand why I want one :). Not to mention once ive saved up some moolah I will probably get one, or a second 24" depending what I fancy at the time.

SSD.....because their fast......really fast :)
Re: The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
Two monitors. In fact two *new* monitors as I'm sick to death of the fan noise from the one I have. What do I need two monitors for? Probably nothing - I'd probably just leave some of the minimised windows open on one and do my main work on the other. Which means I'd spend 99% of my time looking at one and not the other and hence all the 2nd monitor would do is waste electricity. But I wants them I does...
And a few extra PCs so I can see if I can hack the Solaris SPARC only product I work with for the day job onto Solaris X86 / Linux. This is coming from a man sitting in a 6' x 6' room with 2 tower PCs, 2 laptops, 1 X86 1u server and 5 Sun SPARC servers of various vintages.
Oh and a car. We already have a car which my wife has all day for her work. I work from home most of the time and I could use more exercise but I want a car even though it would also sit there 99% of the time doing nothing but wasting money.
Re: The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
Antec Skeleton - Zak33 you want it because your slowly turning from a normal user into a geek with your HDD theories and HDD hotswap drives.
All I want is a TFT than can produce colour and give pictures as good as my CRT does. Yeah it's only running at 1600x1200 (or 1280 x 1024 ) but it looks better than anything I've seen at the moment.

I've been thinking similar things for different reasons. Pretty sure dust would be an issue unless the garage was 'sealed' (less open - a lot of crap comes in under the door of my garage) and I'm not sure how they'd cope with the temperature range in there. I actually got a couple of quotes to convert my garage over to living space at the start of the year - to use as a home office - but it was way more than I thought it would be (the companies were quoting £15k+ just for the conversion which I thought was taking the michael - I was hoping to convert, decorate and furnish it for less than that!)

Beat me to it :) Although I'm trying to hold myself back until they're cheaper...
Re: The "Why do I want one" thread :-)
A 9" netbook. I spent a while looking for the Acer Aspire One with XP and a 120GB hard drive when they were £150 in Tesco but couldn't find one, and now they seem to be fairly commonplace for £150.
I don't really need a netbook. I already have a capable 3GHz P4 laptop. But they're so small! My thinking was that I could take a netbook abroad and use it to store photos, hence wanting the 120gb one. Cheaper than those standalone portable storage hard drives, and it has more uses.
Now that they're available at £150, I've gone and spent a load of money on other things.
My camera bag is a bit heavy, but when I put my laptop in it weighs a tonne.
