I will get a couple more metres.
Is it worth getting the tube cutter or will a sharp knife do a good job? and are there any other tools that are needed? - I can't think of any.

    Re: Watercooling pointers

Nothing really needed. The tubing cutter, I've never used one, sharp scissors or a knife is good, just try and get the ends straight.

One thing you might want is this - http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cata...roducts_id=641 - if you aren't confident putting a paper clip into the pins

    Re: Watercooling pointers

    I would also get

    http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cata...roducts_id=322

You will also require TIM to mount your water blocks
    I would use

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=103

    For the CPU water block

    &

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=166

    for the GPU.

    You will also require

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=167

to clean off all the TIM residue

Also if you are turning this into a project you may want to consider cable management.
If this is the case then you can sleeve the cables and join them together in bundles with cable ties.

One last thing. From going through your list ensure your get the correct size pipe coils. As 5/8" OD fits the 7/16" pipe correctly.

Fernox sealant (for central heating) is very useful too - my last build used compression fittings (which are very good and tidy) but I also used a smear of fernox as a backup. Tubing cutters are priceless really - straight cut everytime and they're dirt cheap anyway.

    Re: Watercooling pointers

I've talked myself into that resevoir unless anyone can tell me why not - it looks awesome. Am I right that I will then also need a top for the pump? Im guessing that this is now right:

................................Just having to log to other build as I have it stored there BRB...............

    Re: Watercooling pointers

If you purchase the reservoir, then you will have to purchase a different pump top.

    http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/cata...roducts_id=614

    The XSPC works very well.

Also the new reservoir you have linked gives you flow indication so you do not have to purchase a more expensive item later.

    Re: Watercooling pointers

Right, Done it ordered all the above. Thanks especially to Peter and Piggin you have both demonstrated a huge amount of patience

But this is where the fun really starts, and you know i'm gonna be calling on your knowledge as the build progresses - However if at any time you get bored with my questions I will understand if you ignore me

So first question as I get all excited about delivery day (next week some time I hope).

I understand that the loop should run like so:

    Resevoir
    Pump
    Rad
    CPU
    GPU

    and back again

    1) Where is the best place to put the inline tmp sensor?
    2) Does it matter if the GPU is before the CPU?
    3) With a TJ07 and the PA120.4 where is it best to mount the pump?

    Re: Watercooling pointers

I think the best place to put the temp sensor would be after the CPU and GPU since the water will be hottest here and I think the CPU should be before the GPU because you don't want the heat of the GPU running across the CPU waterblock since a GPUs max temp is much higher than a CPU's but I could be wrong there.

    Hi Syd

Sorry if you thought you had been abandoned but I have had issues with my broadband.

As for your list of items, I think you have covered it but there is always something. lol

As for the loop - correct.

I would put the CPU before the GPU as the core i7 generates a lot of heat, so requires the most cooling.
I would mount the pump in the bottom of the case behind the PSU or mount it vertical next to mboard.

As for the temp sensor its up to you what you want to measure. If you place it after the CPU & GPU it will give you the max temp of the water in the system.

I do want to measure max temp so your placement makes sense, just looking forward to getting my teeth into the build now

    Re: Watercooling pointers

    Hi Syd,

I responded to this last night but mustn't have pressed post or something.

I'd mount your pump in the top section, near to the drive bays if possible.

CPU before GPU to get the coldest water to it, they are more sensitive to temperatures than graphics cards.

The temperature sensor can go anywhere, just put it where ever makes it look better, in between the gpu and reservoir would give you a nice indication of the overall water temperatures.

    Re: Watercooling pointers

Morning chaps, just a thought, would mounting one of these:

    http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/prod...roducts_id=262

In the top be a squeeze? - i've read that this is the only rad that fits - but just thinking of the future (I7, poss chipset and SLI cooling) would it be worth having the 2 rads on the loop?

    Re: Watercooling pointers

Hmm, two rads in the loop is possible and in some cases good, but it's not needed right now, so I'd leave it out until you decide to cool the chipset (not really neccesary if you're not overclocking too much tbh).

You're right though, it is a squeeze but that's the only that fits.

Hi Peter How much more efficient at getting rid of heat would the loop be with the extra 120.2 rad? Or are you saying that it wouldn't really make much differnce?
