new build. no video singal?????

hi. i just rebuild my comp with some new bits, and now, when i boot it up, the moniter shows no signal.... just staying with the orange light in power saving mode.

parts are as follows

p5b deluxe wifi/ap (2nd hand of ebay, described as working)
e6700 (worked in old comp)
powercolour 4870 1gb (worked in old comp)
xms2 ddr2 800mhz ram (new)
hiper 720w psu (had 4 ages, works fine and very good)

it powers up, lights lit on the mobo, hdd spins, all fans spin including on the gfx card, lights on my usb keyboard and mouse light up. ive tryed using an old 7950gt i draged out, same result. ive tryed using differnt channals for the ram, tryed using just 1 stick of ram with both sticks. ive made sure both the 6 pin power connectors are pluged in.

i took the cmos battery out, and put the cmos jumper in the clear position for 12h, didnt help

1 thing i havnt done properly is all the jumpers. i only did the ones for the power button, reset button, and hdd activity light. but the others are just for the front usb ports and the front audio jacks right?

ive no idea what to try next....... i really need help guys

lol ye. as per instructions in the manual. no beeps at all

you won't hear any beeps unless you connect a case speaker (assuming you have one - most modern cases don't come with them, you're expected to buy your own :@ ). If you could get hold of one and try and listen for beeps it might help your cause. Right now I'm tempted to believe that either the ebay guy wasn't telling the whole truth about the board working, or it was damaged in transit.
I do have to ask though, with a modern system like this, would a slightly newer board not have been logical? The P5B boards are pretty old (though they are meant to support your CPU without a hitch, they won't have PCI express 2.0 which may cause you grief with the graphics card)

Yes, like Jasp said you do should plug in the speaker to hear beep codes. On (remote) possibility would be if you had accidentally plugged in the HD LED into the reset jumper (continuous resets).

I always keep an old PCI VGA card around just in case – actually I used to keep an ISA card for that purpose which was even better but of no use any more…

That ebay motherboard is your most likely culprit though!

If I were you, I'd probably try and get at least a P35 board for its replacement, ideally a P43 or P45.

Well, I do have to ask, why the P5B? How much did you pay for it? I would sooner have a P31-S3G than an old 965P board.
