Sapphire HD 4890 Atomic or Asus GTX285

I just returned my faulty XFX HD 4890 Black for a refund so what new card should I get

I was thinking about

the Sapphire 1GB HD 4890 Atomic @ 1000/4200 Pre Order at £234.99

So which would I be better off getting.

The GTX 285 at that price.

The GTX 285 only performs a tiny bit better, the 4890 is DX10.1 though so you might get a few more compatible features when DX11 comes around (tessellation etc, although it isn't the DX11 spec tessellation). I'd prolly go with the Radeon as it might be a tiny bit more future proof.

The atomic is a nice card but at that price i'd say it was over what its worth. I'd personally just pick up a Saphire 4890 vapour x for £160 off scan. Bear in mind their are supposed to be some 2gb 4890s in the works, not seen a review of one yet though.

Unless you only want either of those 2 cards i would also say just get the £160 (4890) off Scan, performance from the lower 4890's is still really good.

I did see something about a 2GB Sapphire 4890 coming out but again seen no reviews or dates, I did ask Scan to swap the faulty Black Edition for the Vapor-X but they said they don't do swaps, only refunds, and the vapor-X is Pre order only with no ETA now, guess I'll keep waiting for a while as I ain't had the refund yet, never know, the vapor-X might be in by then

There are plenty of decent HD4890 1gb cards for under £170 and over £200 there is also the HD4870X2 to contend with.

Sorry mate, didn't see they was still pre-order, sure i heard mention of scan stocking them for the 30th but don't quote me on that. As always cat is pretty much on the ball, at £234 the atomic is £6 cheaper then a 4870X2 which is going to kick is cracker teeth in.
