best micro atx mobo for overclocking?

    hi there

ive had a compaq presario 6000 series for little over a yeer now but for some strange reason the restore plus cd has stopped working,,the motherboard thats innit is pretty darn pooo so im gonna have to format and instal windows the normal way!

but before i do im thinking of upgrading it with a board of the same size which is micro atx but i wanna be able to overclock and hopefully ited be nice to have thermal sensing onit aswell as this poo compaq board doesnt support temperature reading etc

could any1 gimme any ideas please,,also would it have onboard lan/graphics etc?
    thnx

ASUS (as do most of 'em i suppose) do a mATX nForce2 mobo...i would think that that would fit the bill okay, has onboard everything...

That is in fact a nforce1 motherboard, so will probably be quite poor for overclocking in comparison to the latest boards. Try looking for m-atx nforce2 motherboards, they are very hard to find, but there are some out there, I promise

I use one for the media pc in my living room. You're right, it is indeed quite poor for overclocking. The bios doesn't have changable multiplyer/fsb, and the only way to change clock speeds is via moving a couple of things (forgot the word) on the mobo.

However, if you're not after anything higher than 133 fsb, it'll do you a lovely media pc/budget lan box. Though.. that's not what you're looking for, is it?

rabs that board has me very intrested,it looks fantastic (actually similar to the carpy nforce1 compaq board in the machine) tell me what type of overclock could i expect from a board like this when using either an xp1800 or xp2400?

    does it have thermal capabilitys?

OK put it this way, the board has virtually the same overclocking features as a Epox 8RDA, depending on the chip and your PSU (remember most cases made for matx boards usually have small PSU's) the overclock varies.

The only reason I haven't pushed mine is that I have a real ickle case and the temps get a bit high (I have a modded antec matx case).

I suppose if you got one of the legendary XP1700+'s you could get the usual 2.1-2.2Ghz that they overclock too.

The board has temp monitoring facilities too, which comes in handy as I use MBM/Coolmon combo on my desktop to monitor them.

The only gripe I have is that I bought 2 x TwinMOS DDR400 Modules and the igp doesn't like em, works fine with a seperate GFX card tho (I use a Geforce FX5600 in it).
