    Silent socket 754 cooler

I have recently aquired an old Athlon 64 3000+ computer in a lovely silverstone HTPC case and have installed xp media centre on it to use with my xbox.

The machine is up in the bedroom so that we can use freeview up there and then stream recordings back down to the xbox in the living room. The only thing is that it is noisy and not what you want buzzing in the background at night if you are recording a film for example.

What I want is as near as silent fan as possible for it and a silent PSU.

    Any suggestions?

I have seen this on the scan site but am unsure whether it will cool the CPU sufficiently?

    Fanless heatsink

When you say you can't hear it above everything else in the room what else is there? As I said this is for in the bedroom and may be used at night when are asleep in bed when everything seems about 10 times as loud!

At 12v the the AK-860SF is certainly quiet but falls just short of being silent. You can just about hear it 2m away and easily ignored during sleep.

I silenced mine by applying a 56ohm resistor. Not that it was nessecary, even if the machine was right next to my bed.
