    Motherboard for Core 2 Duo

One of my friends needs a new motherboard for his Core 2 system. I've been a little out of the loop, so I thought I'd ask what chipset he should look for. And if he is going for a brand new i7 build, what chipset should he look for, and is it likely to support future i7 based chips?

The MSI P43 Neo-F should do the job for under £60:

If he is going to go i7 he needs an X58 chipset motherboard with Socket 1366, your friend is running socket 775 which will not support the i7 CPUs, ever.

If he's going i7, then why does he need a new C2D mobo?

He's not. He is upgrading 775 motherboards, but the OP was confused about suuport for the i7 CPUs.

Thanks. I guess I was not very clear in my original post. I realise that the i7 requires a different chipset/motherboard to a C2D. At this point, he hasn't decided whether to simply get a new motherboard, get a new motherboard and replace the C2D with a C2Q, or to sell off his C2D gear and go for the i7. What I meant to ask in the second part of my post, is whether current Socket 1366 motherboards is likely to support upcoming i7 chips/refreshes, or if they are due to be phased out.

I see what you mean now.

To my knowledge, there are new i7 chips coming but they will be on socket 1156, and i9 will be on socket 1366 too. If not then it's a very stupid move by Intel.
