WD my book and windows 7

I've got a wd my book external hdd (500gb) that I've had for a while which seems to be having some problems with my new windows 7 system, every time it connects windows 7 says there might be errors and takes ages to properly recognize it etc. I have noticed that the divers installed for the drive are from 2006 (!!) but that there is no update and WD do not make available downloadable divers, anyone had similar issues or got a fix?

Most of the drivers are from 2006, my SATA BD-ROM comes up with a 2006 driver in Win 7 - its normal. There wont be any downloadable drivers for your My Book because its USB 2.0.

Does the drive work in another OS?
Tried a different USB cable and port?
Have you installed the latest motherboard drivers?

Works fine in xp, don't have another cable and have tried multiple ports, I believe I have the latest drivers.

From checking around on the internet it seems that the drives have/had problems with vista x64 and now lots of problems with windows 7 with no solution I can see.

Often what happens is that developers code to the bugs, not the standard. It is likely this is what has happened with this MyBook. Consider cracking it open and getting a new case for the HDD. Afterall a USB Mass Storage device shouldn't have any problems.
