THAT Xclio is a CWT (and I know it is, I've seen one) - but that doesn't mean they all are.

Targus? Never heard of them. The only results I've found suggest it's a Tagan.
I thought Targus made laptop bags??
Sorry I ment tagan
Targus do make PUS's but only Power block thingys for laptops
They are very good actually with multiple modular heads for almost any laptop

Just a little update, broke the machine down, cleaned everything and now it works perfectly. Most odd.

Maybe a loose connection somewhere?
Or dust in a connection / contact?
Memory slots can often suffer from dust infection esp with cpu coolers that blow down onto the cpu as stock coolers do.

There was a decent build-up on the CPU heastsink, and I gave that and the RAM slots a damn good clean, must have been dust or a loose connection. Most odd.
Cheers for the help all.

The Q8200 uses about 80W (Despite sharing the 95W TDP of the genuinely 95W Q9550) and last I checked the Athlon XP TDP was about 75W - that seems about right given the obscene temperatures those old chips used to run at.
Depends which Athlon XP, I guess The Barton core 3000+ and upwards were over 70W (topping out at 79 for the 333FSB 3200+), but my 2600+ TBred B is only 68W - and runs at about 43 degrees stock in a cheap no-brand case with the worst cabling in history . The TBreds rated < 2000+ have a TDP of 48.5W - 52.5W...
Yeah 79W, that's what i was thinking of (and I also meant exclusively the faster Bartons). With an Arctic cooling heatsink with arctic silver 5 and a case with five 80mm fans, my 3000+ runs around 45-60 idle, and 55-75 load, depending on its mood. Doesn't see much use these days.
TDPs are assigned to a range of CPUs I think - the q8200 has the same TDP as a q9550 but I'm pretty sure the q9550 uses more power. Just like E8xx and E7xx CPUs have 65w TDP each but the E7200 uses a similar amount of power as the 45W AMD 5050e.
yeah, but for this discussion (power usage), that's what's important. The E5 and E7 series are given the same 65W TDP as the E8s, but only the E8s use 65W, the E5s and E7s are closer to 50W, which is why I was so appalled by the power consumption of the old Athlon X2 7750/7850.
