    Clarkdale 3.06ghz Preview!

Seems the existing Core2 processors are still competitive:

    Re: Clarkdale 3.06ghz Preview!

I hope the i5 does perform better than in the preview as it seems that the Core2 and indeed even the Phenom II are still competitive. It seems clock for clock the Core i7 is much faster.

I do own a Q6600 ATM! I just think that the Phenom II and Athlon II are particularly good value.

I'm not impressed with that for some reason, seems pointless in a way.

I guess it depends on the price compared to core2 at launch

    Re: Clarkdale 3.06ghz Preview!

new dual core CPUs need to be cheap, unless they're ridiculously fast. Now that reasonable quad cores are barely over £100, any dual core ideally needs to be two figures (this is why I don't recommend E8000s any more).

Yeah the current E8xxx series is shockingly dear

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: Clarkdale 3.06ghz Preview!

trouble is, that's what you get when there's no competition for a product. of course, they could try going after the tri-cores, and the highest end CPUs would succeed, but they are TOO expensive.

Probably pick up a Tri-core, motherboard and ram for the price of a E8600 *goes to check*

Check Ebuyer as the Phenom II X3 720 is only £92. Get one of the following motherboards as they have the SB710 southbridge with ACC:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigab...D3-Motherboard

This is the better second revision as the first has the SB700 southbridge instead.

HardwareCanucks used the first revision of the motherboard to get an X3 720 to 3.65ghz.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GIGAB...770T-UD3P-MOBO

You maybe able to unlock the CPU to a quad if you are lucky too.

For some overclocking (not unlocking) the stock cooler should be fine:

Doesn't Clarkdale also have an integrated 45nm GPU?
