Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
well my current plan is to upgrade big after christmas but (assuming i still have time with my new job) i will be video editing a lot and im a fairly serious gamer. Saying that i bought this Abit IP35-E almost 2 years ago as a temporary thing until i could afford something better and its still going strong.
I do DEFINATELY plan on getting a new case PSU and SSD within the next year thats for sure.
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
I daresay a new PSU is the order of the day, but the case isn't terrible, it depends what's going in it. I do imagine you would get better temps, especially with the 6600, and probably the GTX260 as well.
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
Well i have had this case for nearly 5 years now and its been to and from university many many times so its taken quite a beating. As for the PSU, you would be suprised how good this one actually is, the only time i have noticed it screwing up was when i pushed the CPU to 3.7! Main reason i will be upgrading that is because other brands are quieter and i plan on having a go at watercooling and SLI/Crossfire in my next machine.
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
You do realise you're only pulling about 340W off it when it reaches 3.7Ghz though? If you're going for crossfire but want a quiet PSU, I'd suggest nothing other than Corsair or Zalman.
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
Yeah i know but the 3 and 5v rails dropped down to an unacceptable level. I have been looking at the Be Quiet Dark if im honest.
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
I'm not defending it, I'm reiterating what a naff PSU it is that it's failing at 60% of its rated output. I'd avoid a Bequiet unit, mine was crap, and they're really expensive for what they are.

Thats after 3 years of pretty much constant usage + at the time it was filthy. Its been cleaned sinse then and i havent tested it. Thanks for the tip there though, i will of course be dropping a build thread in the Tech section before i buy anything anyway :)
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
There's an option missing on the poll. I ditched my Q6600 a few months ago, and in fact it's soon to find a 3rd owner. I had the funds available for an i7 config and grabbed it whilst I had the chance. No doubt many would think it overkill, but I've no regrets.
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
You had the money to buy an i7, no dispute there. What I do dispute is throwing away all that money on a P6T6 with presumably, only two PCIe 16x cards installed...
Re: How long do you intend to keep your Q6600 until??
I'll replace my Q6600 when it's too slow for my purposes or boredom sets in. Boredom usually wins. At the moment my gaming bottleneck is the GFX card (and to an extent the HDD) so they would likely get replaced first. I don't even multitask much any more.

Don't worry, it's normal for men.

At the moment I'm only running SLI, however my intention was to throw a decent soundcard in there too. Actually, my original intention was to run SLI plus Physx with my old 8800GT, but after having tried it, I really didn't see any benefit. Anyway, the supplied SLI bridge was one slot too short so I had to put up with using the tri-SLI bridge with its middle connector obstructing a slot - that's now been rectified so I'm back to researching soundcards again (struggling to find many proper HD audio solutions - most seem confined to DTS at best).
Out of the boards I'd narrowed my list down to, the P6T6 was by far the most flexible. I really didn't like the other PCIe layouts; I've no need for PCI and a PCIe x1 slot, typically restricted to a half-length card due to heat-pipe assemblies, is of no use to me. The P6T6 offered everything I wanted and was only £50 or so more expensive. I managed to snag the PSU and motherboard right at the end of one Today Only list, and caught the CPU and some of the RAM on the following list (I hit two lists in one day). That good fortune more than made up for the difference.

Actually research has shown that multitasking makes you dumber.
OK, specifically that you work smarter if you concentrate on one thing at a time. Some much for the female advantage. :secret:

Whenever it needs it I guess. I love my Q6600 and can't see me getting rid of it until I need to :D . Probably in a few years.
