Old system disposal - price check

    Hi All,

Now that the new system is up and running, I have my old P4 kit to dispose of.

    P4 3.6Ghz
    3Gb Crucial DDR2
    400 Gb HDD @7200
    Foxconn Mainboard
    8800GT 512 Mb
    Viewsonic 19" 1280x1024
XP SP3, MS Office 2003.(All OEM)

I don't think it's worth a hell of a lot, but can you tell me what you think, or alternatively name a charity who might want it.

    Thanks

I think I read on this forum charities can't take electrical items any longer

    Monitor - £35ish

PC (if you're not splitting) will be worth around £100 as it has licensed software, better than standard GPU, 400GB HD compared to usual 80/120GB.

If the copies of XP and Office are original and you still have the disks, the monitor is an LCD and you have a decent PSU it should be worth at least between £150 to £200 IMHO. The 8800GT should be worth on its own between £40 to £50. IMHO £100 is quite low and you have to only look at the prices of refurbished P4 PCs which have no Office,a smaller monitor, less RAM,less storage and a rubbish graphics card too. Also the single core 3.6ghz P4 was also almost the fastest one Intel did and is usually much faster than the one found in most refurbished PCs too from companies like BigPockets.

Some organisations distribute old computers to charitable organisations still as I know people who use them. I will ask a mate if you are interested as he knows one or two of the organisations.

Thanks. Hang on to that thought. I need to check if the family can use it.
The software is genuine and I have the CD's for the mainboard, GPU, Office and XP.

If you can't sell it. Place it on FreeCycle UK. There will be a specific group for your area.

That's what I intend to do with my aging machines (ones a intel p4 with 1 gb, and the other is an AMD Duron 950Mhz with 256mb). Mind you I've been intending to do that for ages. I find it really hard to let go of my computery stuff

The old P4 Northwood chips were good solid overclockers. I still have a similar system running as my fileserver

The PC is still fast enough for most things especially since it has HT too. My work PC had a 3.6ghz P4 and 3gb of RAM and it was certainly fast enough for most things. TBH,if a family member is not interested I would sell it or at least the 8800GT graphics card as these still fetch a reasonable amount on Ebay.

Have to agree with Cat's opinion, cos he knows more about IT than I do

With regards the monitor, I did pickup a 19" widescreen Hans one for £40 on another forum (that was collection by the way)
