Fraps...a good benchmarking tool?
Ok.....just upgraded from a 8800GT to a 4890HD...so should see a big jump right?
Futuremark 3D shows it , and the devil may cry benchmark tool...however!
When playing cod4 online, using fraps, there is NO difference between the 8800GT and the 4890?! How can that be? :surprised::telephone::surrender::crazy::ill:
I havent changed any settings....
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Re: Fraps...a good benchmarking tool?
Vysnc enabled? what fps do you get?
Re: Fraps...a good benchmarking tool?
I remember changing from an Nvidia card to an ATI one - the drivers were a pain to remove so I ended up reformatting. If it's not a huge task (ie if you have loads of programs/data that would be a pain to restore) for you and if no-one comes up with a better solution it's worth a go. :)

Perhaps...but then I am playing with people who are claiming that they are hitting 100+ at 1900x1200
Fraps results:
2009-08-07 13:11:32 - CoD4_MW - 8800GT
Frames: 6075 - Time: 102487ms - Avg: 59.276 - Min: 15 - Max: 62
2009-08-07 13:14:12 - CoD4_MW - 8800GT
Frames: 7188 - Time: 121644ms - Avg: 59.090 - Min: 37 - Max: 61
2009-08-07 21:48:50 - CoD4_MW - 4890
Frames: 3373 - Time: 56620ms - Avg: 59.573 - Min: 52 - Max: 62
2009-08-07 21:50:27 - CoD4_MW - 4890
Frames: 2942 - Time: 49357ms - Avg: 59.607 - Min: 56 - Max: 62
2009-08-07 22:43:48 - CoD4_MW - 4890
Frames: 15137 - Time: 253489ms - Avg: 59.715 - Min: 30 - Max: 62
Upon using 3D Mark Vantage I am getting a GPU Score of 8273 which was about 1000 below what I expected to get (based on other users results). Although I think that feature test 6 is whats mainly dragging down my score (29fps).
So far I am surprised by the lack of jump, but as already stated I am no doubt doing something wrong. I removed my previous Nvdia drivers using driver sweeper, but this made no difference (apart from rendering the physix cpu test unsuable).
I dont want to..but if the general consensus is that I need a reformat then I will go that route.
Thanks
Re: Fraps...a good benchmarking tool?
That's v-sync(this links your max frame rate to your monitors max refresh rate, to prevent tearing), disable it to see the true frame rate. So long as v-sync is on you will only see 60fps(more than enough fps btw), no more, but it can improve image quality greatly in some games.
Re: Fraps...a good benchmarking tool?
Just looks like COD is limited to 60FPS is all. Can't you remove this limitation in COD console? (I'm assuming it has console "`" access).

it's V-Sync.. just turn it off and it'll go into the hundreds easily.
(in the graphics settings)
Re: Fraps...a good benchmarking tool?
Yeah V-Sync syncs the frames with your monitor's refresh rate - any more fps couldn't be seen anyway so if it runs smoothly with v-sync ie it doesn't drop fps in complicated scenes it might be best to leave it on. For example - Portal, as well as other source engine games, limits fps to about 300 which my 4850 hits even when settings are high but if you move the camera quickly there is noticeable tearing which is unsightly and v-sync prevents this and makes the game look much smoother.
Re: Fraps...a good benchmarking tool?
OK guys, got this sorted now..
Thanks, yes vsync was the big problem for the COD4 fps testing. by removing it my results are now at:
2009-08-08 19:12:48 - iw3mp
Frames: 5571 - Time: 71507ms - Avg: 77.908 - Min: 39 - Max: 94
This coupled with conflicting drivers was causing issues.. which I got removed by using driver sweeper in safe mode (removed nvidia & ati) then I reinstalled the ati drivers.
My GPU score on 3D Mark vantage is now up to 9973
Thanks for the help
