Re: 400GB Samsung HD403LJ Spinpoint T166
Well if you work it out it's 167GB per formated capacity per disk which in turn I think works out as 80GB per platter...?
Not sure if I'm right but my calculations state 80GB per platter.:undecided
Re: 400GB Samsung HD403LJ Spinpoint T166
I doubt it's 80GB per platter - that would mean 5 platters. 167GB per platter means it's probably 3 platters - maybe only one side of of the third platter is used but I can't find specs on the net. These are older drives and probably wouldn't be very fast.
Re: 400GB Samsung HD403LJ Spinpoint T166
I have the 320b HD321KJ which is a Spinpoint T166 and for the time they were reasonably fast drives(around 2006 and 2007) and quiet too. They either use 166gb or 133gb platters. TBH, I would get one of the 320gb Samsung F1 drives for a similar price as they are single platter.
Re: 400GB Samsung HD403LJ Spinpoint T166
Or a 500G Ecogreen F2 with 500GB platter?
That will be on par with / way faster than any 400GB drives.

OMG what the :censored: was I thinking of, know you are right, I recommend you get yourself a Segate HDD 5 Year warranty and bullet proof. I have been using these for years never turned back or used another make of HDD.
Re: 400GB Samsung HD403LJ Spinpoint T166
As far as I know Seagate don't get 5 years of warranty now, except enterprise drive.
Re: 400GB Samsung HD403LJ Spinpoint T166
Right now Samsung and Western Digital are my drives of choice.
For that price I'd also go with the 320Gb Samsung.
Interestingly I avoid Seagate because of past reliability issues. Still with such a wide choice everyone should eb able to find a drive that suits them :)
Re: 400GB Samsung HD403LJ Spinpoint T166
I've got a 401LJ, and it does the the job but nothing special... I seem to remember the 400GB versions actually being a good bit slower than the 500GB ones due to lower density platters, I think it was CustomPC benches.
