CORSAIR PSU any good

Hello,

I'm building a new PC for my brother and he has a limited budget, a vast majority will come from Scan but I'm a little lost with the PSU. Trying to fins one within his budget is proving to be a little hard. I looked at the Corsair TX850 PSU which had a very good review on HEXUS, but considering they make memory do they do a good job with a PSU...?

Generally yes, but normally a little over priced. What are the specs of his system, cause the tx850 sounds a little overkill if you have a small/limited budget.

Yes, Corsair psu's tend to be fine. However as the above mentioned 850watts seems a like overkill. What spec is your brothers pc?

It's not a seasonic based unit from memory so they are OK but perhaps not the best.

As has been said though, 850W is overkill for pretty much anything these days.

Corsair HX and TX are not only very good PSUs, but they also tend to keep stable rails at 20% over their advertisied rating. They are well overbuilt in that respect. Depending on your brothers system, OPs, you will probably only need a 520W. I only have a 750 W because I might consider slapping another 295 in it in a few years time... more likely I'll buy a whole new GPU and sell the 295, you never know.

Out of interest, have you actually read reviews of the TX850 from decent sources?

Yep.

From memory it suffers the usual problems that eh CWT based units do, good performance, average build quality.

If you're going to waste your time and money on a 850W PSU I think there are probably better routes to take, hence, OK.

Enermax, Seasonic, Be Quiet in that order

I'd take Seasonic over CWT any day of the week...

Well if you're going to build a system that actually requires 850W (rediculous lol) you might as well do it properly and get an enermax revolution or something like that.

I'd deffinatly take seasonic, enermax, be quiet!, OCZ, PC Power and cooling.. maybe even Tagan over CWT.

It would have to be a monster of a rig to actually NEED 850. I've got a 620 and to be honest, I'm starting to think even that is overkill.
