    SpeedFan query

I just refitted my PC with my best kit, having replaced a failing PSU.

Now when I run SpeedFan, I get a high "Aux" temp:

I've no idea what it is supposed to be referring to, though. Anyone know?

I bust a FreezerPro fixing leg, so I'm temporarily on the default intel fan/heatsink for the cpu - but that's only a 5°C increase, so can't see it being to do with that.

Don't like seeing that burn symbol...

    Re: SpeedFan query

127c indicates a non-functioning sensor. Nothing is actually running that hot.

    Re: SpeedFan query

Yeah you would probably smell something if anything was running that hot in your PC. Did you check temps before refitting? As mentioned it indicates a non-functioning sensor or no sensor present - 127 is the maximum number possible with 7 binary places - 1111111 - which is the number used by most temperature sensors.

    Re: SpeedFan query

    Hmmm, strange.

If it's due to there not being a relevant sensor, that's fine, of course, but I didn't get anything like this before.

    Today it's showing 119°C.

I had my spare mobo - a Gigabyte GAP35 - in it before and all temps were okay. If no info was available, it just showed a zero.

Now I have my Asus P5K-E WiFi AP back in, and the cpu (E6850) at 3.52 GHz, which is well within it's limits.

The only other difference is that I have an extra chassis fan connected, and of course the new PSU. The old one had prevented me from overclocking and couldn't power all my drives.

As you rightly say, though, where there's no smell, there's no fire - so I'll just keep it under obbo.

    Re: SpeedFan query

Personally i have never trusted that program, if it's giving a dodgy reading on one sensor how can you trust the rest?

Its showing 11.35v on the 12v rail too, your psu ok??

Just tried the latest version on one of my pc's apparently my 12v rail was at 6v?? I don't think so, uninstalled it straight away.

    Re: SpeedFan query

Have you added a profile for your motherboard? Think you get them from the speedfan forums, but you need to be a member.

    Re: SpeedFan query

Xoni - I'm 100% sure the aux reading is safe to ignore. You aren't using the latest version of speedfan so it might be worth upgrading. The profiles are also worth a look but they are nothing more than that - customised settings for each board i.e. they don't change what the program does they just change what's reported on, perhaps some offsets (temp, fan divisors, etc). It's also worth checking what speedfan is reporting against asus's own monitoring utility (forget what it's called as I haven't had the need to use it in a few years).

    Re: SpeedFan query

I'm using speedfan firstly because it was recommended on the Overclockers forum and my normal monitoring progs won't work for some reason - maybe they don't like Win7 64.

That's coretemp and TAT - they crash and exit on startup or fail to load, though cpu-z64 runs , but no temps of course.

I see nothing untoward in the hardware monitoring info in the BIOS, either, and my case is very well cooled (bearing the current OAT in mind), so I think, as I said, I'll just keep it in mind and not worry unduly over it.

btw my voltages, as shown in the BIOS, are very good compared with the GA-35 mobo.

    Thanks for replies.

EDIT:: Just installed the latest version (439 final) and no change.

    - also installed PC Probe II (Asus) which was a pain, but got there in the end, with Vista SP2 compatibilty mode:

It didn't seem bothered - so all things considered, it's case closed, I think.

btw mac - nice voltages, huh?
