Sapphire HD 4890 Toxic or wait for 5000 Series?
We all know that AMD will be releasing their 5000 Series in October 2009, the burning question is are they relying on Microsoft releasing Windows 7 too much? As you all know Windows 7 is DX11 and AMD are waiting on Microsoft to release Windows 7. Now the problem I have with past experience with beta testing is... Microsoft had a set date of 22nd for Windows Vista but was delayed until Jan, which I think will possibly be the case with Windows 7. I might be wrong but as we all know there are still some serious issues with Windows 7 which need to be addressed.
AMD have announced the 5000 Series of cards and across the Internet the chatter is emence. New chip, new prices, new design and new card. The question is who will jump the post to be in poll position first. AMD or NVIDIA...? Also there is the question of price banding, we all know that AMD have always set their price banding low to be competative with NVIDIA. but, reviews have stated that the price band for the 5000 Series will be from $200.00 $600.00 because there will be different ranges from 512mb, 1mb to the mighty 2gb versions. I just hope that Sapphire keep their price band either just over or below the £195.00 to just over the £200.00 mark to be competative with their rivals.
So the burning question is should we wait for the 5000 Series or buy a Vapor-X or Toxic version...? I like both the Vapor-X and Toxic editions but as a rig builder and tweaker I'm at a crossroad on residing which to go for? At the moment you can get a 2gb Vapor-X for under £200.00 which is very tempting. Also any news when Scan or Hexus will have these to show off to the Internet.

Windows 7 RTM has already been finalised, and released to OEMs and MSDN subscribers, so I am confident that they will easily make the October release. If you are desperately in need of a card now, then buy one now, otherwise, I would probably wait until the new ones come out.

I know I have my copy but there are still some bugs which will probably be patched on the day of release. Bearing in mind that Windows XP was released on the 22nd October 2001 and they day it was released there was a massive update on the first day.
I am waiting because the reviews I have read are awesome. I have two 4890 1GB OC editions at the moment which to be honest knocks the socks of the Vapor-X. 900MHz Core although the memory has 4000MHz the Vapor-X has 4200MHz which makes up for the differenc. but perfromance shows not much of a change.
I'm waiting.:)
