Putting a Shuttle together - help needed

Hi all,

I got all my parts (cpu, ram hdd gfx sound) etc.. now the question is... what order shall I put them in, in?

Never built one from scratch you see!!

Will I need to format the HDD?

Never built a SFF before but i should imagine put everything together in an order that makes best mechnical sense. In my experience (with normal size systems) this is Drives and PSU followed by Mother board, CPU, Ram, Graphics card and cabling etc.

Re HDD IF it is a brand new drive then you will need to partition it with FDISK at the very least. Then either format it manually or let the OS do it when you install it.

Firstly take out the aluminum caddy from the main part of the chassis.

Now, put the CPU in and attach the ICE heatsink and fan.
Then place the memory on the motherboard.
Then place in any cards such as GFX and Sound in the available slots.
Go to the caddy and load up the caddy with the Optical drive, the Hard drive and the floppy drive if needed.
Place caddy back in shuttle carefully, making sure that you allo enough cable length to get it all plugged in.

These things are a bit fiddly, but they are small

Well my advice is to do(n't) do it like me. Drop the CPU on the motherboard bending the pins on the CPU. Don't worry a forceful hand soon got that CPU in the socket. Everything else was a pain in the arse to get into the shuttle. Strip the whole lot down.

What other tools will I need? Do I need an anti-static wristband or anything? Should I be weary of electric shocks?

The HDD is new, brand spankers... what do I need to do to it... do I just insert my Windows XP cd in and it'll format it ready for use?? What format do I use for my HDD? Fat 32 or NTFS?
