Anyone know when the Athlon II X4 is coming out??

I heard some noise about it a while back but nothing recently. Since there are supposed to be 45w models coming out which would be ideal for a mini-ITX based build. If ATI and Nvidia can get their GPU assisted encoding software to work better on IGPs it would be great as it would mean a small, lightweight and more importantly cheap box to do some light encoding with.

It seems nobody knows ATM!! :( These were supposed to launch yonks ago! I suspect AMD may launch them when the Core i3 and Core i5 are launched. It would be nice if a sub £80 quad core was launched though!! :)

Thanks for that info but it seems a tad late TBH!! :( AMD should be aiming in the next month or two as the Core i3 is being released for under £100 soon!! A bevy of cheap Athlon II X3 and X3 processors together with the Phenom II X3, the Phenom II X2 and Athlon II X2 would keep AMD competitive at this price level especially since they can use DDR2 also.

If they make ultra low voltage quad sub £80 I'm in for 10 for a 40-core cluster :P

In SuperPi the single threaded performance of the X4 630 looks slightly better than an X2 7750+ which is not too bad. At around £90 the Phenom II X3 720 does look better though.

AMD is getting as confusing as intel.

Thanks for the info, I did know they had 65w energy efficient models for Phenom II X3 and X4, but this is the first I heard about 45w Athlon IIs. Great news.
