Why the shock?
Urgh! My filter at work has that site blocked, whats it say?
he word is finally out. AMD will launch it’s much anticipated next generation graphics processors code name “Evergreen” on September 10th.
For AMD, these 40-nm, Microsoft DX11-compliant GPUs will fundamentally change the graphics industry – again! – and give it a clear advantage over Nvidia; ahead of Windows 7’s launch in late October.
Sadly, AMD’s Santa Clara, Calif., rival hasn’t shown much of its DX-11 chips yet. However, Nvidia might choose to show off its wares at the GPU Technology conference it is hosting at the end of September in San Jose.
The GPU market is finally kicking some tires, just in time for the holiday season!
I pity the guy who wrote that. These cards won't fundamentally change the industry (and not sure what on he means by again? They've not been released before so can't change it again). There won't be any clear advantage over nVidia either.
It's impossible to say at this stage what they might do - it's expected AMD will basically be using a similar design to the 4k series (which virtually meet dx11 standards anyway) so their costs will be low and the potential for lower priced products with healthy profit margins is good. nVidia either have to come up with a new design or base it on their GT200(b) chip, both of which are expensive options either in R&D/testing or manufacture. If they go with the latter then the inherent performance is very high and they just have less margin for the medium-end chips. If they go with the former then it's unlikely a new design would be slower, but stranger things have happened.
I don't have any DX10 games yet I don't think......

will these new cards be "Skype Enabled"? God I hope so.
I worry a lot about that... and will it be Millenium Compliant?

I suspect they will retain the performance crown, but ATI will get the lion's share of the market based on the price.
I think he's referring to the last lot of ATI cards being such high performance and so cheap that they forced down the price of the Nvidia cards.... and led to them releasing some new, hastily put together cards to try and compete. That's just how I read it, but I agree his language was fairly sensationalist!
I couldn't care less about DX11 yet, but more performance for the same power draw is always a bonus.
I might buy one of these completely pointless innovations that are going to fundamentally change the graphics industry. Then again I might not because I'm still in shock about the fact they are going to be using a similar design to the 4K series. Why can't they just invent something awesome to the power of sick that's like 128x radically pointless and be done with it. I've just throw my arms in the air like Skype enabled is a deal breaker... OK I lied cos I'm still using my keyboard but you get my point? Kalniel made me say all these things and that I should sell my cutlery. He told me it was all very logical.
