Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

I have 99% decided that i'm not going to buy the spanish-layout Logitch Dinovo keyboard & mouse, however it has set me on a mission to get something decent.
I've tried (a bit) to find a really good review, or set of reviews, comparing modern keyboards & mice, but to little avail, on getting the odd single review saying that so-and-so is ok.

    So.... What should i get?

    My criteria is as follows:
    1) It has to be quality. I currently have an adequate keyboard and a temp but old microsoft mouse, but i want to get a clear and obvious upgrade.
    2) I'd like comfort over features, i rarely like mice with 17 buttons, as i only use left, right, and really like a scroll wheel that has notches in (for FPS games where you change weapons).
    3) I'd prefer something quiet. I've had loud, 'clicky' keyboards in the past that my wife gets annoyed with.
    4) I've had good experiences with Logitech and Microsoft. I'll only consider some other brand if it's seriously good. The new blue-tracks do look cool.
    5) I'd like wireless, although wired is fine.
    6) Good value - I dont have a specific budget, although i dont want to waste money. I can easily afford £40, however if it starts to get towards the £60 mark, i'd like to know why. (I've decided that the £120 for the Dinovo set new is however too much).
    7) Cool. In an ideal world, i'd like something shiny, that looks the part. The Dinovo certainly did that.

    Thanks for any ideas guys

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

I have a saitek eclipse II keyboard - it's relatively classy rather than blingy, the key feel is great, it's quiet, and the back lighting works well. It's also quite cheap.

The Eclipse III is out now, and while I don't doubt the mechanicals, it looks too bling, but maybe that's what you're after.

There's a new logitech set out if you like them - wireless desktop MK700 which looks quite nice. Personally I find the logitech's key feel too clunky, but if you like them then have a look.

I am using an ocz behemoth mouse from ebuyer and its really good. Very responsive feels good in the hand and has handy adjustable DPI. Under £16 too.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/163802

I also have a saitek k140 keyboard which certainly looks the part but if you can then possibly a slightly more expensive keyboard would be better suited.

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

Thanks so far chaps for the ideas... i'm generally not looking for a 'gaming' feel, although i do game a bit. The MX1100 mouse looks very nice, although at over £40 for the mouse alone, that's a little steep (although not impossible if it really is worth it). The G15 however looks a bit ... young ... for my tastes.
I appreciate the comments and ideas though, please keep them coming.

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

One of the comfiest keyboards I used was a Benq white one - I've no idea the model - it was white and curved. I wrote a Ph.D thesis on it (153,000 words) and that was very comfortable. Cheap too; it may've been a PC World impulse buy.

I've fairly large hands so there aren't many mice I like - my favourite used to be the old Intellimouse Explorer which is why I like the Habu so much (similar shape/feel.)

Wired, nothing fancy by good quality
    Mouse = Logitech MX400
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Logit...ons-Black-Grey
    Keyboard = Logitech Deluxe 250
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Logit...oard-USB-Black

I've used both, I like both
The Deluxe 250 keyboard especially, it's the nicest keyboard to actually type on I have used.

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

Well the Saitek Eclipse 2 isn't really a gaming keyboard, you can turn off the backlight and otherwise it's a standard but very good quality keyboard (full size keys not soft touch) and the key etching means that they won't rub off. Otherwise it has the basic media keys so if you just want that then it is a good choice.
Saitek do some slimline multimedia ones quite cheap but I haven't had a chance to test one for quality.

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

I would suggest having a look at the Logitech LX710 wireless keyboard and laser mouse combo for around £37 delivered:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Wir.../dp/B000OCXFNI

    More details:

    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke...s/147&cl=US,EN

I have one and it is fantastic for general use and a bit of gaming. I only replaced it since I got a G5 laser mouse and G15 keyboard for around £40.

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

I have been using an LX710 Cordless Desktop (with the laser mouse) set for about one and a half years so far. I really like the keyboard, and the mouse is good enough. Bought it so that I wouldn't have to type a final year report on my laptop's keyboard... one of the best £30 I ever spent (and I have never seen it sell for that little since then).

So that's my vote for the LX710 thrown in. Would I buy it for £37 now? Knowing how nice the keyboard is to type on, probably.

Be carefull with this if you use a standard keyboard anywhwere else. Functions keys, home, end, page up, page down all not where your fingers expect them to be. A lot of Logitech keyboards are laid out like this now.

If you use find as you type in Firefox the LX710 mouse back button puts a character in the quick find bar meaning it deletes what you were searching for!

Ended up going back to my old Logitech optical mouse.

My LX710 Cordless Desktop will be going on ebay very soon.

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

I use mouse gestures on Firefox so the Back/Forward button issues don't really affect me. I used to use an MX518 (which now lives at my computer at work) and it did the same thing.

Agree that Logitech's newer keyboards including the one in this set have a slightly altered layout compared to older 'standard' keyboards. However most of the important ones (like Ctrl, try using a few lappies and getting used to random placement of the left Ctrl key) are where they should be. I feel the big Delete key is a plus and the Home/End placement more accurately reflects their use in word processing and text editing.

Of course Shift-Insert is slightly harder in this layout because Logitech made Ins very small and far away... >_<

Re: Recommend me a quality keyboard & mouse please

I went down to my local PC World earlier to play around with their relatively limited stock. Overall i didnt like how the Logitch keyboards' keys felt so raised above the board, whereas the microsoft ones felt a little smoother, less effort.... not quite sure what i'm saying, but i think i liked the microsoft keys better.
I reckon i'm going to get something like a MS 5000, 6000 or 7000 series, i need to look into the differences.
