    I built it!

Big thanks to everyone in here who helped me >> http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...oices-plz.html

I dropped the processor and heatsink, but apart from that the build went pretty well.

Monitor is fantastic. The difference between it and the old 15" is unreal. And I can max out all the settings on most games, looks fantastic! What have I been missing!!!

And there is my desktop. I'd take a pic of the rig but all I have is a crap phone cam, so not much point.

    Again, thanks everyone!

Final specs? I see you're running XP, you do realise (unless this is the 64-bit version, which is imho crap) you won't be able to utilise more than 3GiB of RAM right?

That would all look pretty slick if you had a dark xp theme too.
What are you using for the clock/calender/notes/newsfeed on your desktop?

Xp - Raises eyebrow. I have that theme on my PS3 !!!
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: I built it!

Well I'm waiting till I'm in uni to get windows 7. But I also have 64 bit Ubuntu installed.

I'm using Rainmeter, various skins. It's not perfect yet, but I only came across it yesterday.

I'll update my system sped in my profile.

Vaguely recall Rainmeter, but I think it was still in it's beta stage, can't recollect though.

    Re: I built it!

But at the same time windows xp 32bit still can only address a combined total of 4gb.
    As windows stands
    1gb kernal
    2gb apps
1gb other (includes things like video card, sound card and other system devices that use there own or system memory)

With the 3gb switch it becomes
    3gb apps
    1gb kernal+other

Which means you're limiting the space available for the kernal so it gets shunted into virtual memory and has to be constantly cycled between virtual and actual.
So the 3gb switch can end up slowing down windows xp 32bit depending on your setup.

For usernameisvalid's system with it's 4870 1gb graphics card it would have a negative impact unless the avaible addressing for the graphics card is reduced.

EDIT: PS nice work on getting it running, now get some photos to show it off and because we're nosey like that

  14. Received thanks from:

    Ah now that's something I hadn't realised.
When you refer to 1Gb for Other and include gfx cards does this impact only on-board gfx that steal system-RAM or will be equally an issue for those running on-board RAM?

I'd be very interested to see any links that explain when the 1Gb would be exceeded in case this is already affecting my systems.

Sorry to the OP for the mini-hijack but the info may prove useful before your Win7 arrives

If you go into Device Manager, select "Resources by connection" from the View menu and expand the Memory node, you can see the addresses allocated to your hardware and should be able to figure out how much is being gobbled up by each device.

The values are in hexadecimal, so you'll probably need to break your calculator out.
