gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
i just got a replacement from a shop for my coolermaster 650w it was replaced with a gigabyte 550w odin pro does anybody know if it is worth £63 (thts wot i paid for my coolermaster which had a faulty fan after 4 month of usage).
has anybody used this psu for 6 months or more?
i read a few reviews and so far so good if someone would say it is not worth if i would return it while it is still factory sealed.
thanks
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
It's alright I suppose. I don't hear that much about Gigabyte's PSUs which isn't usually a good sign, but it's essentially the same CWT unit as used in the Corsair VX 550W, so it should be pretty solid, though reviews say it's quite noisy (though if you had a coolermaster before, anything will be quiet)
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
Not sure if this is the same model http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...=Story&reid=61 but if it is it looks pretty good. :)
Personally though I'd rather go for a known good PSU brand.
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
ok i decided to open the box because even if i did return it i would only get another coolermaster cos i checked their stock online no corsair unfortunatly :(
so i installed it and WOW this psu combined with thermaltake sonic tower (cpu passive cooler) turns ur system into a stealthy quite beast. really surprised me and its also mudular and now my system is way tieder no more cables stack in case fans if u move ur box.
so far so good but i do not know wot the future holds - i read it has nice mitsubishi capacitors which should keep it alive for the years to come.
btw i also got a cd driver with this PSU
ps the link is of the gt version i got the pro version but they are both very very similar.
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
Oooo does it have all the tempture and fan and such monitoring cables?
If not, but it still has the USB connector then the cd probably contains; The manual and Monitoring software.
Without all the additional connectors the monitoring software would be limited to voltage and ampage monitoring (well that's my theory)
If you do have the monitoring capability then go visti gigabyte's website for the latest version/patches, from that jonnyguru review it looks like the software was rather buggy.
There's no way I'd put up with a monitoring program eating 600mb of memory.
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
dam i cant use the software:( because i dont have all those fancy cables the GT version gets however iv got outputs in my supply for those cables, as far as i can tell the only difference between the PRO and the GT version is tht the GT gets this fancy cables and a a bigger price tag for tht matter
this is exactly the psu i got except my one is 550watt not 1200:

Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
Lol, the 550W and 1200W PSUs are completely different in all regards. The only thing they share is the name.
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
ok ur right but u get the idea tht im refering to the same model but a different wattage
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
Yes, but electrically, internally and externally the PSUs are entirely different.
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
That review isn't much good anyway TBH since he loads it about 1/3 and does no ripple testing. A rubbish PSU could pass that test...
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
ok calm down guys i found u a better link
tht is exactly wot i got 1 in 1

Then surely why didn't you return the faulty Coolermaster PSU? Unless you bought it years ago and never used it?
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
He presumably did what I often do, if you get a product you don't really like, should it break, RMA it, ebay the replacement and buy something better.

well i loved my coolermaster until it began making clicking noisises wen the fan hit against its case railing since i paid £63 to get a decent psu i was really pissed off so I went and returned it to the shop which was very very reluctunt to take it after i argued on my behalf they accepted to take it and send it off to refurbish after about 3 months the shop never got it back so they gave me this nice gigabyte psu since they never had any of tht coolermaster left.
Re: gigabyte odin pro 550w (psu)
To be honest, the Gigabyte is a better quality unit than the CM anyway so you've done quite well out of it.
