PLEASE help me share files

OK, so my PC is connected to antoher in the house via a swtich, and that swtich is connected to a router. we are both wired.

we both are using vista, and have the secret admin user, that we use.

i have right clicked my drive and clicked share and set to everyone. my brother can see the drive, BUT when he tries to access it, it says he is nto allowed, and when i access a file he is sharing i cannot access it.

can anyone help?

have a look at the system tray near the clock at the bottom right of screen.

the icon that looks like two monitors - one behind the other - right click > network and sharing center.

or

control panel > network and sharing

make sure file sharing is ticked, password sharing is off.



not sure how you would set it up to have a password if you wanted one. i only turn on the file sharing if my sister wants to copy a file, otherwise its turned off.

is there a firewall running that you can add your internal ip range too ?
example 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255

i can ping the other computer and vice verca, via cmd

In the network and sharing centre, make sure the network type is set to private.
