    KN8 Audio problem

    Hi guys,

I am just putting together an A64 for a mate, with an Abit KN8, and using onbaord sound..... well... NOT using onboard sound at the moment.

I'e tried both styles of driver: I'e used the nForce4 drivers from nVidia, which installed perfectly well but produced no sound from any jack plugs....

and so I re installed XP and tried the Realtek drivers that I found on Abit's site, which look totally different, but I have a sneaky feeling are the same. And still, no sound.

I've turned off SPDIF and tried it with both analogue and SPDIF together in the drivers control panel, but there is nothing.

To begin with I feared it was a broken jack plug (internally bent connector) because the jack sockets are hard to get a mini jack into, but they can't ALL be broken and I cant get sound from any of them, (ie set as surround sound and playing sound through them all)

I'll prolly end up buying a £15 Terratek Aureon because the chap can't afford any more dough than is spent and I need to sort it for him. But before I do, does anyone have ay experience with this error?

AC97 is ACTIVE in bios (or the driversd wouldn't go in) and Device Manager shows no error icons. When using the nVidia drivers even the "graphic equaliser" bar chart pumped up and down when stuff was playing... but I got nothing out here in the real world

Any help, superbly accepted with a jovial smile and a sigh of relief Cheers

    Re: KN8 Audio problem

If it's an older board with AC97, it's possible the front panel audio connection detection jumpers are incorrectly configured.
