Just installed the above in to my I7 system, WIN7 RC and tried to use acronis to copy the old drive across to it. even though it is showing in Windows, for some reasom the software cannot see it.
In the end I decided to do a fresh install of XP64 on it, and it doeesn't see it either. The drive us seen in the BIOS and WIN 7 but not by the software or XP:angst::angst::angst:
Try running it in IDE mode? (Bios option).
What size is your old Windows partition? And are you trying to clone the drive live or restore a backup image?
My experience is that it's always best to boot from the recovery media (trueimage will make you a boot CD or USB key) and restore a backup image to the new drive - trying to clone in Windows is the way of Bad Stuff.
Are you using the same sata port your original drive was on? Before you cloned did you introduce the raptor to the OS, this might have affected why the clone did not work. Is the original drive still in the machine? If so are you sure you are trying to boot from the raptor?
Windows partition is 78GB and I was trying to do a drive to drive clone. It recognises the samsung but not the Raptor.Quote:

Win 7 can see it and I can store staff onto it but not when cloning a image with acronis.

Sorry my typo it is gparted, Here is the download page. Gparted is a program for linux that copies drives from one to another. There is a Live CD which is what you want, that is a linux distro (you don't have to know linux its all gui), that way you can see if it can see your drive if it can the drive is ok and the OS is the problem.
From your latest post, it appears though your OS can see the raptor? If so its a windows installation problem. If your program copied a partition onto another drive it may not have installed a boot block on the drive. If the windows load starts in any form then messes up this could be because windows has the path of the boot partition hard coded into it. So you can't just copy everything to a second drive it needs to be on the same connection as the orginal. Windows rembers drives after it has seen them for the first time and internally assigns a letter, this could also be a problem with the boot.
Clean installs generally sort all of these problems out however thats a problem for you. When you load the windows install media can it see your orginal samsung drive? If so remove it and plug the raptor into that location and try the install.
Just to double check we are talking about SATA drives right?
thanks folks, job done, Drive was in a raid array and just needed a proper format and not win quick one.
