    Re: Pink LED fans ?

Thank You modd1uk. Glad to help out where I can. I've put together a lengthy blog narrative with pics. I've documented what worked and what turned out to be a pain where the sun don't shine. Not sure if this will work for the post, but here's where you can see it: hellokittycasemod.blogspot.com

    Is this the correct link?

    http://hellokittycasemod.blogspot.com/

And welcome to Hexus we don't have many US members and a few EU members, as this is mainly a UK forum.

    Re: Pink LED fans ?

Thanks Pob255. Nice to be here. Yes, the link is correct, but the way you have it, it may send you to someplace in the middle of the blog. If you go just to hellokittycasemod.blogspot.com, that should put you at the beginning of the blog. This particular blog site I use seems to lack the capability of reversing the chronological order of the posts. I had to play with the dates in order to get the right sequence, so that if someone came upon it, he/she would start at the beginning rather than at the end of the project. When it says "Click here for older posts" it actually will send you to newer updates...go figure ) Someday I'll find a better place to post it.

    Re: Pink LED fans ?

    Corrected the link

As I read it I was a little confused that the posts seemed to be in reverse date order.

I don't really want to hijack modd1uk's thread but have you considered basic artist acrylic paint on that fan grill.
Paint it on the back in reverse order, sounds odd but if you painted the reverse side of clear acrylic/glass you'll under stand what I mean.
It will be solid not tinted so light will not shine through it, but being on the back will make it very hard to damage or chip.

Thanks Guys. I appreciate all the comments. Yeah, perhaps a new thread should be started if someone wants to continue on this topic. I stumbled across this forum while using Google. Didn't intend to sidetrack this posting.

Well we do have the odd project log here and there are a lot of logs over on bit-tech.net (another UK based site but with a much more international userbase in their forums). Though don't run away and never come back - it's much nicer and funnier here than on bit-tech

    Re: Pink LED fans ?

Well seeing as this is for modd1uk's sister who's a fan of pink, your daughters hello kitty build is relevent.
If any thing it should give him a few ideas he could "borrow" for his build

PS any luck with pink led fans modd? or are you just going to get some pink LED's and a basic fan and make one?

    Re: Pink LED fans ?

I hear that best way to complement someone is to "borrow" their ideas As far as the original question goes (and this is how I found this forum in the first place), I would recommend getting a fan of your choice and replace the LEDs with pink ones. Alternatively, if you don't mind doing some additional work, I found that some regular fans come with pre-drilled holes for LEDs. It would not be that difficult to use these either. All you have to do is make sure you properly limit the current/voltage so that you don't fry your LEDs. I think most LEDs can handle only about 3V. Here's a link to a nice calculator that takes the guessing out of it: led.linear1.org/1led.wiz
If you feel really geeky, I recommend clicking on the LED Basics at top of the page. It's got some really good info on LEDs and usage. Great for any future modding )

    Re: Pink LED fans ?

I'm gonna end up doing the same. I can't find any decent 120mm fans and definitely not with pink LEDs. Would like to hear/see how yours turns out.

    Re: Pink LED fans ?

OK, I did it ) Got a 120mm fan with blue LEDs and replaced them with pink ones. One thing to watch out for - the original LEDs were like 2mm or 3mm only! Obviously way smaller than the standard 5mm pink ones. I used my soldering iron to "drill out" new holes for the bigger bulbs. You can see the result on my blog if you like to. Modd1uk, I'm hoping you're having better luck.

Dude, you're like the best dad ever, that's one lucky girl. Maybe you could sell them if it looks good enough, licensing issues might abound though.
