Which laptop to replace my beloved SavRow?
Hi all
I had one of these SavRow Razor machines hexus.net/content/item.php?item=784 (sorry can't post a real url even though I've been a member since 2004!) until yesterday when I step on it and broke the screen! GUTTED... anyway what are the top three thin and light laptops that I should be considering as a replacement?
I really want the top of the range Vaio Z but its £3500 :surprised:
Thanks v much

I'd recommend reading this thread which is addressing a similar question.

I don't know if these meet you expectations, or are within budget. But they grabbed my attention.
Dell Adamo 1.6cm tall
Acer Timeline 2.5cm tall, but varies and not uniformal

Another slim notebook with 13.3" screen size. Might have to go to America to get it though as import tax would be too much.
Voodoo Ency 133. Voodoo are owned by HP now.

Re: Which laptop to replace my beloved SavRow?
It sounds like you want a lot of power while remaining very small, good looking, thin and light etc..
The Voodoo envy is nice, the Z series is nice but as you point out expensive, The dell studio 13 opts for power over size but it's still small. There's always the mac book pro 13"..

Lenovo T400s. im very tempted to get one of these machine when i can afford it.
Re: Which laptop to replace my beloved SavRow?
I was thinking about a lenovo t400 or t500 for a new laptop and now I'm thinking the unthinkable, I might get a macbook pro!
Re: Which laptop to replace my beloved SavRow?
I don't know if this is feasible or financially viable. But get a replacement screen.
There's a DIY guide on Computer Shopper site Sure there will be companies that can do it for you instead.
Got to admit the SavRow looks a decent unit, even more so when considering it was from 2004/5.
Re: Which laptop to replace my beloved SavRow?
I called my house insurance people and they picked it up the next day to look at repairing the screen! If they fail to fix the SavRow then I'll check out the Voodo and if I remember correctly Rock do some good laptops!?
My budget would be around £1500-2000 and yeah as powerful as possible whilst being thin and light is exactly what I am after. Quite likethe idea of a solid state drive but they're probably out of the budgt?
I have the displeasure of using a dell e6400 at work and therefore wouldn't touch dell at home ;-)
I also considered a mac but I use windows quite a lit over my network and rely on home server backup so have ruled them out for now.
Thanks for the replies!
Re: Which laptop to replace my beloved SavRow?
You can use Windows on modern macs.. bootcamp fixes all. Not that I am advocating the use of MACs lol.
You can configure a Sony Z to a very high spec and stay under £2000.

2.5Ghz (more than enough)
4GB RAM
400GB Drive
blu ray
Big battery
Not the nice screen.

Over £2000 and i'd add blu ray if we have silly money to go around :D You only lose the carbon fibre shell and tbh.. you dont need that.

Re: Which laptop to replace my beloved SavRow?
Hi again - apologies for bringing this old thread back to life!
I managed to replace the screen and everything was fine for a while. Now the machine keeps cutting out, think a connection for power on the motherboard has become a bit temperamental.
So I am back to square one, what machines should I be looking at? Budget has changed some what though - absolute maximum is £800.
I like the look of the Voodoo Envy but guess thats over budget, the spec looks old and do they even make them any more?
Lenovo seem to have some nice machines at around £600 - is their midrange of products good?
I really like the concept of the iPAD but need a proper OS not a bit mobile phone... damn! Does anyone recommend Windows 7 tablets?
Cheers
John
