    New Gaming Computer For £750

Had a look through some stuff after a few suggestions on here. I need to build a new computer (everything; monitor, OS, keyboard etc.) for £750. It will mainly be used for gaming so that is the priority here. Not really sure on which CPU make to go for in this price range, or the number of cores either. With that I'm kinda rusty on the motherboard.

    CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E7500
    RAM - 4GB CorsairTwinX XMS3 DDR3 1333mhz
    GPU - XFX 512mb HD4870 XXX
    Motherboard - Asus P5QC iP45
    HDD - WD 640GB WD6400AAKS
    PSU - Corsair 520W HX
    DVD - LG GH22NS50
    Case - Antec 300
OS - Vista 64 bit Premium
    Monitor - 22" Samsung SM2233BW
    Keyboard & Mouse - Logitech LX 710

    Total - £829.09

So aswell as not being to sure what to get I need to get the price down to.

    Cheers, iKiX

For starters, get DDR2 RAM, that's 30 quid saved.

Also, IMO no point in buying vista now, get windows 7.

Unless you need the OS now, not in a few weeks time, and don't have/want the pre-release versions. That version of Vista does have the upgrade form, for when W7 ships.

I agree about the memory though.

You would save £20 if you could wait till Windows 7 is out though + it's the retail version not an OEM like the Vista.

Also, that Logitech mouse/KB is currently £33 (saving £5.50) in PC World (if you reserve online). t might not be much, but if you have one locally ....

Personally i would either be waiting or looking at building the system around a AMD setup as they still provide better bang for buck.

Building the computer for a friend of mine, and he wants it before early Septemeber. Any advice on a AMD set up then with this being the case, or still stick with the intel?

You can a MUCH better system for that sort of money.

If you want to go prebuilt look at this Mesh:

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/pcs/re...-955BE-Hush/p1

    http://www.over-clock3d.net/reviews....sh_gaming_pc/1

Remove the dash in the second url.

    It costs around £799:

    http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default...UCT&KEY=591274

Also I saw the LX710 in my local Currys Digital for around £25 too!!

Vista Premium costs £74 at Ebuyer:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123067

Scan is also overpriced for many monitors as Ebuyer have the same monitor for around £150:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150966

I would use Windows 7 RC1 and get the Windows 7 retail version in a few months time.

Also either go for the WB Black or Samsung F1 drives too.

    AMD Phenom II X4 955BE ~£140

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    OR

    AMD Phenom II X3 720 ~ £89

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

A triple or quad core will have better longevity for gaming.

    HX520 ~ £72

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/520W-...-year-warranty

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114945

    Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P ~ £67 to £69

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167782

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/GIGAB...770T-UD3P-MOBO

    OR

    Asus M4A785TD-V EVO ~ £68

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    4gb DDR3 ~ £55

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166996

The Crucial DDR3 on Ebuyer has lower latencies.

    Antec 300 ~ £45

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Antec...r-Case-w-o-PSU

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143854

    Samsung F1 1tb ~ £54

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    LG GH22NS50 ~£17

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/LG-GH...SATA-Black-OEM

    HD4870 ~ £90

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169206

    Samsung SM2233BW ~ £150

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150966

The total comes to around £640 to £691. The Phenom II X3 720 build should give you around £110 to get an LX710 and a copy of an OS.

Cat, do you have like a database of links, or do you just put a hell of a lot of effort into posting
Definitely go with triple or quad, could maybe push to i5/i7 870.

Re: New Gaming Computer For £750

Cheers for the replies guys, i've now been given a budget of £850 to get everything sorted for this.

Here's what i've come up with

CPU ------------------- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz Scan
    RAM ------------------ 4GB Corsair TwinX DDR3 1333MHz Scan
    GPU ------------------- XFX HD 4890 1GB Ebuyer
    Motherboard --------- Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Ebuyer
    HDD ------------------- Western Digital 750GB WD7500AADS Scan
PSU ------------------- Corsair 650W TX Ebuyer
    DVD ------------------- Samsung SH-S223L/BEBE Scan
    Case ------------------ Antec 300 Scan
OS -------------------- Vista x64 Premium Ebuyer
    Monitor --------------- Samsung Syncmaster SM2243NW 22" Ebuyer
Keyboard & Mouse -- Logitech LX 710 Scan

With the graphics card im not sure whether to go for the HD 4890 or the GTX 275, theyre pretty much evenly priced. With the OS i've just put down vista premium for the minute and will look into the windows 7 thing, i will be in a different part of the country when this is released so does anyone know if it is easy to install the retail over the RC copy?

    Suggestions welcome

    Comes to about £840-£850

You (or your friend if it's their computer) will need to do a complete clean install i.e. wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Windows 7. It's not a difficult job, but it does mean they'll need to back up all their data, games saves etc. and then reinstall *everything*, so it's a PITA. On the other hand, Windows 7 is a damn fine OS, so I think it's worth the effort...
