    Hard Drive HELP!

    Hey,

I've got a pc related problem...

    Here's the set up

    Abit NF7-S, 1700+, Twinmos ram...

    1 x Sony CD-RW
    1 x 80GB WD IDE drive 8mb (WINDOWS)
    1 x 120GB WD IDE drive 8mb (DATA)

basically in the mobo normally is plugged in the 80GB drive on the bottom ide connection and the 120GB on the top ide connector and it has worked fine...

recently i wanted to burn a cd so i shut down etc. and unplugged the 120GB drive and plugged the cd-rw into the mobo in its place.

i burnt the cd. i then shut down again and took out the cd-rw and plugged in the 120GB drive and now the 120GB comes up in My computer as though it is empty

btw the 120GB drive has around 90GB of data on it...

How do you have your IDE set up? 80GB on Primary Master and 120GB on Secondary Master? Have you tried putting the 120GB on a different IDE cable / changing it to slave if its on Master.

Also, I see you have the nForce IDE drivers. Apparantly they can cuase problems, so you might want to get rid of those. Not sure that it would cause this though.

    Hope this helps

If you only have 3 devices why are you swapping them around in the first place? :S Surely its easier to just buy a double headed IDE lead?

And where did you put your HD when you took it out? if its been near anything magnetic etc then your ****ed.

erm.... run scandisk, see if you can access the files in dos (ie is it a windows error), try diskeeper - can defrag the mft, try different cable, try different channel, try setting jumper to slave and putting on first channel with 80gb, try uninstalling the nividia ide soft drivers, try plugging it into another comp, try buying faster ram, try hitting it, try crying about all your lost pr0n.

and why you didnt just have the cd-r set up as slve with the 120 is beyond me. Good luck anyway.

I always try reading a book for a night - by morning my comp realises that sulking won't work and boots again.

PS what mobo have you got - i have an infinity and know that the WD drives can be finicky with jumper settings with my board...

I had much the same prob with an 80gig Maxtor. Ended up having to get disk recovery software & getting my data back that way. May be your last resort.

Wasn't nForce drivers as it was on a Via mobo.
