    Hardware dilema.

Right guys, about 2-3 weeks ago i upgraded the main components in my system.

    went from :

    e6600-am3 955be

    4gb 800mhz ocz reaper - 4gb corsair dominator 1600mhz

    gigabyte ds3 mobo - gigabyte ma770t.

    8800gt- 4890.

Now, i currently have the TJ09 case, but i was considering buying a TJ07 and watercooling the lot, this would cost me ATLEAST £500.

Now, do i go for that option...or do i.

Build an I7 system and sell my current cpu and mobo.

As for £500 i could get I7 cpu, mobo, possibly an SSD and some noctua fans to cool it all.

The dilema is..i have money, and because im so used to not having it, i dont know whats the best option to spend it on ! Some will be going on my car, some will be going to the mother, some will be buying another bike, but im left with quite a bit spare, i enjoy my pc, i spend alot of time at my pc.

I currently have a 24" dell @ 1920x1080 and a 19" wide LG, the LG will be getting replaced with another Dell so i can have matching 24" monitors on the desk.

    Help guys .

Save your money, you stand to gain naff all upgrading that.. enjoy the AMD goodness

Yeah the i7 will be faster but whether you notice it is another story.

Water cooling is great but do you really need it.. I suspect not, that is a fast beast now.. stick with it

The only reason ide want watercooling is to...infact, i cant think of a valid reason, other than i want it lol, i had a previous thread about fans, i could still do that route and just noctua my TJ09 up, pretty sure the airflow, temps and noise would be alot better then ? Oh one thing about watercooling is my 4890 fan @ full load is noisey , so that would give me an advantage.

One thing i do want is a HDD upgrade, the OS is currently running on a 500gb sammy, its slowwwwww, i was going to move some data around and format my 1tb sammy accordingly but its too much messing about when i can afford to buy a new HDD, are they worth it yet ? Please say yes lol.

    Re: Hardware dilema.

You only just upgraded the whole shebang!!

Stick with what you have and in 12 to 18 months time something much more powerful from AMD or Intel will come out.

Also the new DX11 cards form ATI are being released in the next month or so too.

Get some decent fans for you case and if you want to try some water cooling on the cheap get a Corsair H50 although it does need to have a case with an intake fan and decent airflow.

You can spend some cash on a SSD but TBH unless you are doing a lot of video or image editing I think they are not worth the money.

Also if you have some extra cash put in the bank for a rainy day.

get an ssd to satisfy your hunger and windows 7 when it comes out. you should have a beast of a system then. watercooling the lot would be a much better idea than "upgrading" to i7 because you really won't notice it in games and watercooling looks hot. have fun dudis

Seems so, had two based on the reference design that both do it, quiet down after a few months of use though.

Tbh i dout you would notice any difference going i7 as the 955be is a amazing processor to begin with and beats the i7 in certain games, while the i7 is more for video editing...

You have a car in your case? Impressive....

But no dude, you didn't make the wrong choice. NV cards have the noisy capacitor problem too. I have an 8800 ultra, and under any kind of stress, it screams. It likes to make an irritating buzz sound too, at times...

As has been suggested, you don't really have a reason to upgrade. Save your money mate.

Water cooling would be a complete waste, unless you wish to go for EXTREME overclocking on your GPU and CPU.

Thats just it, i dont want to OC the system, ide rather have a cool running system @ stock speeds. I mean..granted this CPU is supposed to be quite fast, ide just prefer the windows/game loading time to be faster, which is why im thinking SSD, also the spinning up of the drive and clicking is starting to do my nut in, along with the vibration noise.

LoL! I recently had to upgrade my card (8800GTX blew up, and XFX refused to RMA it <_<) and it was a toss up between 4890 & GTX 285.

I went with the GTX 285, and it squels under load. And I was thinking the exact same! Dam, should have got ATi. Cause I was reading, and apparently they have digital PWM, which ment they did not squeal.

Makes me feel a little better about my squealing 285

I agree with you, I like the idea of water cooling for quietness. I have no interest in overclocking, firstly as this increases the power use and secondly I like my computers bullet proof, I have even underclocked a computer before to make it 100% stable.

    Re: Hardware dilema.

Now I'm glad you are interested in an i7, it is an epic processor, but for £500 you cannot really achieve that good of a system, you would be better off upgrading to a quad core and getting a watercooling loop for that amount of money. You need at least £700 to get a decent i7 system that justifies upgrading. This is because without a good heatsink the performance of the i7 will only remain slightly above stock, and thus in terms of gaming performance, will not give that much of an improvement.

He just upgraded a few weeks ago to a Phenom II X4 955BE and an HD4890 1gb!! TBH,the OP should get a couple of better fans and use ATI Tray Tools to control the fan speed.

Also some newer DX11 cards are coming out soon from ATI.

Take it from someone whose gone from i7 920/X58 to X4 955BE/AM3 all my games still work great.

The most important aspect of gaming is the graphics card, the 4890 are the best value graphics card in my opinion in terms of fps vs £

ATI tray tools ? This mobo sucks for 3pin fan connections so im running them through my zalman zm-mfc1 plus. Also..i cant figure out how to get the middle fan out of my TJ09 ? Not looked in detail but cant see any obvious way or getting it out.

As for HDD's, these were mentioned http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/320-G...MB-Cache-89-ms, if i format 160gb of that, is it going to give me faster loading times than this current 500gb sammy ?
