acer 5810t problem

bassically the problem is the cd rom drive the drivers for it are corrupt or somethign they worked before but recently once booted into windows the cd rom drive does not show in my computer or even open but yet it opens during hte dos boot up sequence im thinking it is purely a driver error but after doing an update on the drivers apparently they are the most up to date ones availiable any ideas ?

p.s. its not my laptop all else fails we will take it back to pc fail world ¬,¬

getting this when i look at the driver how can ifix this :/

Had this with my gf's Acer 3100. I never did find a fix. In the end I just taxed an external DVD-RW of an old HP 4000.

Im guessing its some sort of hardware failure. Is it still under warranty?

been reading up apparently u can fix the reg but i cant find hte patch for vista
