best i7 cooler?

I'm looking to get an aftermarket cooler for my i7 920 (currently running at 3.32) and i've found its starting to get a little warm. i've been looking at the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 Rev. 2 or the akasa nero. which is the best one or are there any other recommendations people can give. thanks

Akasa nero is decent but go for titan fenrir for best air cooling.

well i'm looking at something a bit cheaper than the high end ones, which are out of my price range. ideally i'd like something around or less than £40

good stuff. does anyone know anything about the new artic cooling freezer pro 7 rev.2? know they have always been pretty good for cheaper coolers and wonder how the new one fairs up

Whatever anyone says, there is still nothing that beats a lapped TRUE.

However, the TRUE costs about £43 without a fan, £50 with one - both of the above coolers cost under £30 (one under £25) and perform extremely well, probably within a few C of the TRUE. And you don't have to lap either of them.

AFAIK the only change to the rev2 is a multiple socket mounting system where as the old one was socket775 only.
A 92mm fan based cooler is always going to be behind a 120mm fan based cooler in both performance and sound levels, simply because a 120mm fan can achieve greater air flow for less noise than a 92mm fan.
Also in a case environment with 120mm fans, the difference in pitch between a 92mm fan and a 120mm fan, will make a 92mm fan more noticeable even if they are the same db.

I would look around at the better reviewers out there. You don't want to go too cheap on cooling. Esp if you are thinking of OCing the chip.

the Corsair CWCH50 Hydro Series Water Cooler is supposed to be better than a top end air cooler.

I was tempted by the corsair H50 but thats a bit out of my price range. After reading through the reviews and going on the price bracket i've decided to go for the Titan Fenrir, seems to have the best performance/£ out of all of those I've read. Plus I can also swap the fan over that comes with it if it is too noisy as some reviews suggest

well i've got and installed my Titan Fenrir today and its fantastic, knocked about 15 degrees off the temperature underload @ 3.31GHz. Once got a bit more stuff set up (decided to have a go with Win 7 again now there seems to be more compatible software for it) then I'll see how much further I can push it. Whats a realistic target with my system specs?
